Shirley E. Hoffmeyer died peacefully January 27, 2026, at Mercy Hospital in Valley City, N.D. She was born June 14, 1943, was educated in Elgin and graduated in 1961.
Shirley worked as a waitress in her early years before marrying Francis LeRoy Hoffmeyer. She later became a longtime Avon representative, where she achieved notable success. During her career with Avon, she earned membership in the Avon President’s Club and received several cars for her outstanding achievements. She also worked in convenience stores for several years.
She enjoyed pinochle, reading, board games and iPad games. She was actively involved with the senior citizens group, where she started and organized a weekly pinochle tournament. A skilled card player, she won the 2020 State Pinochle Tournament, an accomplishment she cherished. She will be remembered for her sharp mind, strong work ethic and love of community.
Shirley is survived by her son, Dean Hoffmeyer, and his wife, Kristie Hoffmeyer; her grandchildren, McKenna Hoffmeyer and Austin Hoffmeyer; her stepchildren, Linda Spragge, Barry Hoffmeyer, Philip Hoffmeyer, Pam Anderson, Paula Hoffmeyer Bryant (Chuck Bryant), and Laurie Davis; stepdaughter-in-law, Judy Hoffmeyer; her sister, Jane Mayer; her brother-in-law, Duane Hoffmeyer, and his wife, Candis Hoffmeyer; her sister-in-law, Marlys Christ; her special friend, Rodger; and several nieces, nephews and special friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Pauline and Emmanuel Schatz; her husband, Francis LeRoy Hoffmeyer; her son, Daryl Hoffmeyer; stepsons, Morris Hoffmeyer and Mark Hoffmeyer; her sisters, Viola Schatz and Betty Schatz; and her brothers, Harvey Schatz and Leo Schatz.
