Jamestown (CSi) After 10 weeks of being closed, 3rd Av SW is open, sort of, from 2nd St SW north to CSi driveway. Motorists can now enter & exit Historic Franklin School parking lot and drive-up payment box normally.

Interstate Engineering says work in this area has been suspended for the winter.

The intersection at 1st St & 3rd Av SW is still closed as work continues.

The 2nd St SW bridge remains closed.

The detour to access west of the river is via 2nd Street to 4th Ave, up to 1st Street to use the 1st Street bridge.

A reminder, the intersection of 1st Street SW and 3rd Avenue SW, near Renaissance Recycling, is closed for construction. Access the recycling center by looping around Historic Franklin.

Updates will be posted online at jamestownsewerproject.com, accessible on line at CsiNewsNow.com and on The Wayne Byers Show on CSi 2.

Jamestown (CSi) Jamestown’s Community Christmas tree lighting is set for Wednesday at 5:15-p.m., in front of the Jamestown Civic Center. The tree was placed in front of the Jamestown Civic Center on Wednesday (Nov 20, 2013).

The tree was cut down and moved from the Jeff Schmidtt home located at 2015 – 5th St. N.E. City Forester Doug Wiles says the tree is 50 feet tall before being placed in the holder in front of the Civic Center. He says the tree weighs 9,800 pounds.

This is truly a city project, with the tree cutting and trimming done by the city street department crew, the moving by Scherbenske and Son and the tree lights and decorations done by the Jamestown Fire Department.

The Jamestown Main Street Downtown Association will again be in charge of the City Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, Wednesday evening.

The lighting ceremony will start at 5:15 p.m. with Christmas carols and songs, a history of the tree and a Christmas message by Deacon Tom Geffre, chaplain at Ave Maria Village.

Coffee, hot chocolate and hot cider will be served along with cookies, courtesy of the Main Street Downtown Association.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) – A pilot walked away uninjured after a small plane made a rough landing at the Fargo Jet Center.

Emergency officials say the nose gear on the propeller plane collapsed when it landed about 8:20 a.m. Tuesday. The plane tipped on its nose and sustained an unknown amount of damage.

Officials did not immediately determine what caused the landing gear to collapse.

     The pilot wasn’t identified.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Authorities say 11 men were arrested in an online child sex trafficking sting in the western North Dakota oil patch.

The men have been charged separately in federal court with attempted sex trafficking of children. The suspects range in ages between 18 and 50. Most are believed to be from out of state.

The arrests last weekend were part of an operation in which federal and state law enforcement officers, posing as online sex traffickers, offered underage girls for sex in the Dickinson area. A similar effort last month in the Williston area netted three arrests.

U.S. Attorney Timothy Purdon calls the number of arrests “very concerning.”

A judge has sealed affidavits with details about the case after prosecutors warned that further information might jeopardize the safety of undercover agents.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Job Service North Dakota says the state’s unemployment rate dropped slightly in October and remains the lowest in the nation.

Job Service research analyst Michael Ziesch (zish) says North Dakota’s unemployment rate was 2.7 percent in October, down from 2.8 percent in September.

The national unemployment rate was 7 percent in October.

Ziesch says North Dakota has more than 19,000 unfilled jobs.

Ziesch says the unemployment rate typically rises during the winter months when construction and other outdoor-related work slows due to North Dakota’s cold weather.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A Canadian company is inviting oil producers to bid on rights to use the largest-capacity pipeline proposed to date to transport North Dakota crude.

Calgary, Alberta-based Enbridge Energy is proposing the $2.6 billion, 612-mile Sandpiper pipeline to carry 225,000 barrels of oil daily to a hub in northern Minnesota and 375,000 barrels to one in northwestern Wisconsin.

The company on Tuesday announced a so-called open season, which is a period of courting gas producers to secure shipping agreements. The company says oil shippers have until Jan. 24 to commit to the project.

Enbridge announced Monday that Houston-based Marathon Petroleum Corp. agreed to pay 37.5 percent of the project’s construction in exchange for 27 percent equity interest.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Retired engineer George Loegering was out hunting with relatives Saturday when they came across an interesting weather phenomenon – a spinning circle of ice in the Sheyenne River.

The rural Casselton man calculated the disk was about 55 feet in diameter. He says it was a surreal experience.

Allen Schlag (shlawg) and Greg Gust with the National Weather Service say ice circles aren’t rare, but they’re not real common either.

They say a combination of cold, dense air last weekend and an eddy in the river likely caused the disk.

The cold, dense air turned river water into ice – but since the water was relatively warm it didn’t happen all at once. And floating bits of ice got caught in the eddy and started to spin in a circle.

 In sports…

In world and national news…

UNDATED (AP) – Turkey and stuffing and snow and rain. It’s not a welcome combination — but a lot of Americans trying to head to Thanksgiving gatherings will be dealing with some nasty weather conditions. Forecasters say much of the Northeast and mid-Atlantic region will see heavy rain and high winds over the next day or two, and parts of the Southeast will also get a soaking rain. In parts of Pennsylvania and New York, the threat comes from snow and ice. Airline passengers are expected to see delays, with ripple effects spreading nationwide.

WASHINGTON (AP) – Companies that have resisted part of the new health care law on religious grounds will be able to make their case to the Supreme Court. Justices will be hearing two cases that had different outcomes in the lower courts. At issue is whether companies can be required to cover birth control for employees, even when company owners say it violates their religious principles.

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio (AP) – An Ohio school district has placed its superintendent and two other employees on leave. They’re facing charges, following an investigation prompted by the rape of a 16-year-old girl by two high school football players. The school employees are accused of lying or failing to report possible child abuse.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) – Police may be closer to finding out who made a phone call Monday saying that an armed man was on his way to open fire at Yale University in Connecticut. They say they have images from a surveillance camera of the person who made the call from a pay phone about a mile from campus, and they say they’ve identified several people of interest. SWAT teams that searched the campus didn’t find a gunman, and police said the call was apparently a hoax.

NEW YORK (AP) – MSNBC and Alec Baldwin say they are ending the actor’s talk show. It was suspended for two weeks after Baldwin used an anti-gay slur against a photographer in a New York City street. Baldwin’s Friday night talk show was only a few episodes old before he was videotaped using the epithet. Baldwin apologized and was given the suspension.
