Jamestown (CSi)  —  The Jamestown Rural Fire Department spent several hours containing a fire that  destroyed a shop building in rural Jamestown, at 3856 87th Ave. SE.  (east and south of the Jamestown Country Club).   The fire call came at approximately 10:20 p.m. Friday, and 18 firefighters with eight trucks responded.

Rural Fire Chief Rick Woehl said when the units arrived, the south end of the shop was involved in flames, coming through the roof.  All three structures were in really close proximity to each other there. Numerous propane tanks were inside the burning building.  Firefighters  removed them before the fire reached them.   Some acetylene tanks burned with the structure.

Below zero temperatures and wind chills hampered fire fighting efforts, as  the firefighters used portable propane torches on frozen hose couplings.

The Stutsman County Sheriff’s Office  assisted with a truck that was having mechanical problems.  The Buffalo Valley  Red Cross volunteers provided warm food and coffee.

The cause of the fire is believed to be from a  wood-burning stove.   Fire fighters were on the scene until 3:30 Saturday morning.
