GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – A city councilman from East Grand Forks has died.

Ron Vonasek died Thursday evening at his home.  The cause of death was not released. Mayor Lynn Stauss says Vonasek recently underwent back surgery.

The council will appoint a replacement who will serve until the end of 2014.   Vonasek was appointed to the council in 2011 after the death of long-time council member Dick Grassel and elected to another term in 2012.
