TIOGA, N.D. (AP) – Thirteen cars from an eastbound train carrying mostly empty truck containers and trailers derailed about 35 miles east of Williston on Thursday morning.
Williams County Emergency Services tells KFGO radio that it’s possible that 60 mph winds from a powerful winter storm might have caused the derailment. BNSF spokesman Steve Forsberg says the company hasn’t determined the cause but there was unusual weather in the area.
The derailment has blocked the main BNSF line, and customers have been told to expect delays of 36 hours to 48 hours. Forsberg says that could change depending on an assessment by repair crews
