Jamestown (CSi) On February 13th, weather conditions caused poor driving conditions in the Southeast Region of North Dakota. Strong winds, coupled with some freshly fallen snow, caused visibility issues in the rural areas, especially between Valley City and Jamestown. In the Fargo/Moorhead metro area, frost, blowing snow and exhaust condensation caused ice covered roads.
Interstate 94 was closed from Valley City to Jamestown in both directions from approximately 4:30 am until 8:00 am. The roadway was closed because of visibility issues and vehicles blocking the traveled portion of the roadway.
In all, NDHP troopers investigated thirteen Property Damage Only crashes between 3:00 am and 11:00 am region wide. Two of these crashes occurred on the Red River Bridge, eastbound, at approximately 10:45 am. Both were property damage only crashes. The NDHP investigated one of the crashes (a sideswipe crash) and the Minnesota State Patrol investigated the other crash (a rollover).
In addition, twelve passenger vehicles, one pickup pulling a horse trailer and seven commercial motor vehicles were towed from the ditches and medians of Interstate 29 and Interstate 94 during the morning hours.
This will be the only news release related to the crashes that occurred on February 13th.
