hemphillXJamestown (CSi) A 55-year-old Jamestown man charged with two counts of robbery and one count of criminal intent has pleaded not guilty.

On Monday, Gary Hemphill appeared in Sotheast District Court in Jamestown, before Judge John Greenwood for a preliminary hearing.

Hemphill waived the hearing and entered his pleas.

Hemphill remains in the Stutsman County Correctional Center on a $50,000 cash bond. No date was set for a trial.

Hemphill allegedly robbed the Cenex Gas Station on 10th Street Southeast on December 15, 2013, and the JetStream Car Wash, on 10th Street Southeast, on January 9, 2014.

He allegedly attempted to rob Dan’s Sooper Stop on January 28, 2014, but left the gas station convenience store when he was confronted by one of the clerks. Law enforcement officers tracked him to his residence where he was arrested.

Police was able to connect Hemphill to the first two robberies by having a clerk from one of the gas stations identify items of clothing police found in Hemphill’s residence that matched the description of clothing Hemphill wore while allegedly committing the robberies.

Robbery is a Class C felony with a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine. Criminal attempt is a Class B felony and has a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.
