FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Beach overcame a 16-point deficit at halftime to beat No. 2-seed Thompson 56-48 in the opening round of the North Dakota Class B girls basketball tournament Thursday.
 
     Bailey Waldal’s layup at the buzzer in the third quarter capped a 23-5 Buccaneers’ (23-2) run and tied the game 40-40 after trailing by as many as 18 points.
 
     Waldal finished with a game-high 19 points and 10 rebounds. Hailee Farstveet had 11 of her 15 points in the second half.
 
     Miss Basketball finalist Shannon Galegher was the top performer for the Tommies (23-2) with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Her jumper with 2 minutes left to play brought the Tommies within one point.
 
     The Tommies got 11 points from Bethany Ivesdal’s 5-of-8 shooting from the field and a team-high 15 points from Karleigh Weber.
