200 Acres Of Grass Burns Friday At Pipestem

Jamestown (CSi)  The Jamestown Rural Fire Department fought high wind and another grass fire Friday afternoon at the Pipestem shooting range.

The call came ib about 4:20-p.m., with the fire burning about 200 acres.

Seven fire units  and 22 firefighters responded to Friday’s fire.

In addition to the strong wind, the muddy soft soil hampered fire fighting efforts.

No injuries reported with the JRFD on the scene over three and a half hours.

The  cause is under investigation.

Rurual fire fighters put out four grass fires this past week.

On Thursday, an estimated 120 acres burned southeast of Jamestown.  A fire Tuesday near Highland Home Cemetery burned a small area .  On Monday a small grass fire was put out near the National Guard shop.

Areas residents are cautioned to use care even when the present modertate fire index is present.

At this time there is no burn ban in Stutsman County, but that could change.
