otptscJamestown (Csi)  A portion of Southeast Jamestown was without power Saturday afternoon, starting about 3:15 p.m.,  when a high gust of wind broke a tree branch that struck an electrical transformer  on a utility pole causing the transformer to spark, and shut off power.

The location was in the alley in  between 5th Avenue Southeast  and 6th Avenue in the 1100 block, near the TSC store.

The Jamestown City Fire Department was called to the scene, however Lt. Mark Urquhart said the sparks from the transformer did not cause a fire.

 

otppoweroutagetscThe fire units were on the scene less than 30-minutes, as crews from Otter Tail Power Company were sent to the scene.

980 customers were affected by the outage.  The power was restored at 4:08 p.m.

The National Weather Service placed Jamestown and Valley City in a Wind Advisory at 3:50-p.m., which was allowed to expire early Saturday evening.  The Jamestown weather station recorded a peak wind gust of 41 mph in the 4-p.m. hour. 

At 4:30-p.m., Saturday, the Law Enforcement Center in Jamestown said a wind gust caused a tree to topple damaging two vehicles near 2nd Avenue and 10th Street Northwest.

A flash flood watch expired Saturday evening, with .05 of an inch of rain recorded on Saturday, and .10 of an inch on the CSi weather computer in downtown Jamestown.   Officially 1.08 inches on Friday, .92 on the CSi weather computer.

Today another wind advisory is in effect from 10-a.m. to 7-p.m.
