Jamestown (CSi) Jamestown Police is warning residents that a convicted sex offender is has changed his Jamestown residents.

The report says, 21 year old Sawyer John Suko, now resides at 408 Business Loop West, Apt #1 in Jamestown.

He is described as a white male, 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing 168 pounds with hazel eyes and brown hair.

His vehicle is a red 1993 Chevy Blazer with North Dakot alicense plate: KHK 892.

He has been assigned a high risk assessment by the North Dakota high risk level committee, of the Attorney General’s Office.

Suko has been convicted of Gross Sexual Imposition, involving a 13 year old girl, when both Suko and the female were intoxicated at a campsite, when Suko was 18 years of age. The conviction date was January 6, 2012, in Stutsman County, District Court.

Disposition: One year and one day…with 285 days suspended, and under supervised probation…currently on probation with North Dakota Parole and Probation, and is on GPS Monitoring.

Suko is not wanted by police at this time and has served the sentence imposed by the court.

This notification is meant for public safety and not to increase fear in the community, nor should this information be used to threaten, assault, or intimidate the offender.

Any attempts to harass, intimidate or threaten these offenders, their families, landlords, or employers will be turned over for prosecution.

Suko has been placed on GPS monitoring.

Jamestown (CSi) Preliminary Jamestown Regional Airport boardings in July this year (2014) have been put at 647, a 262 percent over July 2013 Jamestown enplanements, which were 247.

Airport Manager, Matthew Leitner says the July 2014 boardings were the highest since July of 1978, and second best number of boardings in the past 36 years.

Find the Good Life is a workforce recruitment campaign started by the North Dakota Economic Development Foundation. Foundation Link.

It is a private/public sector funded program designed to help solve the greatest challenge facing business communities, including workforce development, recruitment and retention. The goal is to raise $2.5 million which will fund a comprehensive two-year campaign which started in May 2014.

The campaign will use a variety of traditional, digital and non-traditional marketing tactics to reach each of the target audiences identified for this campaign  Find the Good Life in North Dakota.

 

Valley City (CSi) North Dakota Senator Heidi Heitkamp will hold a roundtable discussion with USDA Under Secretary Robert Bonnie, the top official overseeing conservation compliance.

Local farmers and conservationists are invited to discuss the challenges and opportunities for conservation in North Dakota and how the 2014 Farm Bill’s conservation compliance requirements impact farmers.

This discussion will allow top officials to hear the concerns of farmers and to make sure the new rules are implemented in the least burdensome way according to Heitkamp.

As a member of the Senate Agriculture Committee, Heitkamp helped write, negotiate, and pass the 2014 Farm Bill. Some North Dakota producers are facing challenges to meet conservation requirements.

The Roundtable discussion will be held Wednesday, August 6 inside Valley City State University’s Froemke Auditorium, Foss Music Hall starting at 10:15am. The public is welcome to attend.

 

 FARGO, N.D. (AP) – A Minnesota man has pleaded not guilty to vehicular homicide in the traffic deaths of two sisters in eastern North Dakota.
 
 51-year-old James Yahnke (YAWNK’-ee), of Nielsville, Minnesota, is accused of being drunk and driving 94 mph on a rough section of a Traill County road north of Hillsboro in May and losing control of the car.
 
     Authorities say Yahnke and the two women were thrown from the vehicle. Twenty-three-year-old Mercedes Rowley, of Sharon, and 21-year-old Teja (TAY’-tah) Beyer, of Red Lake Falls, Minnesota, died at the scene. Yahnke was hurt and flown to a Fargo hospital for treatment.

 

 FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Three people have agreed to plead guilty in a Jamaican Lottery Scam targeting elderly victims in the Dakotas and elsewhere.
 
     More than two dozen people have been indicted in the federal case being tried in North Dakota. The defendants induced people throughout the United States to send millions of dollars to them to cover fees for lottery winnings.
 
     Shannon O’Connor, James Simpson and Mikael Gillette all signed plea agreements this week to conspiracy charges. They each face a maximum penalty of 40 years in prison.
 
     Court documents show that O’Connor cashed three checks written by an 83-year-old Harvey, North Dakota, widow worth $65,000.
 
     One of the defendants in the case is prominent Jamaican disc jockey Deon-ville O’Hara, also known as ZJ Wah Wa. He has pleaded not guilty.

 

 BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota’s congressional delegation says the state is getting more than $190,000 in federal funding to help communities handle hazardous material transportation incidents.
 
     Sens. John Hoeven and Heidi Heitkamp say the funds are intended to improve preparedness and support training programs to help emergency responders.
 
     The money comes from the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration.

 

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota’s Land Board has awarded $7.8 million in grants to schools in the state’s oil-producing region. 
 
     Officials say the grants are part of a program aimed at helping communities deal with the effects of rapid energy development. 
 
     The Land Board announced Thursday that it approved funding for 33 projects. The projects will fund safety and security needs, teacher housing, temporary portable classrooms and other projects to address increased student enrollment.
 
     The Land Board is headed by Gov. Jack Dalrymple.
 

 BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – The U.S. Senate has passed a resolution commemorating the 125th year of North Dakota’s statehood.
 
     The resolution was introduced by Sen. John Hoeven and co-sponsored by Sen. Heidi Heitkamp. It chronicles significant events in state history and congratulates the state’s residents on driving North Dakota’s successes.
 
     North Dakota was granted statehood on Nov. 2, 1889. President Benjamin Harrison signed the admission papers, making North Dakota the 39th state.

JERUSALEM (AP) – An Israeli defense official says the 16,000 additional reservists who are being called up will provide relief for troops who are currently fighting in Gaza. But Israeli officials have said they don’t rule out expanding the Gaza operation in the coming days. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is vowing to destroy the Hamas tunnel network. Israel says most of the 32 tunnels it has found have now been demolished, and that getting rid of the rest will take no more than a few days.
 
     WASHINGTON (AP) – The House has abandoned a vote on legislation to address the immigration crisis on the border after tea partyers withdrew their support in a dispute over a separate measure on deportations. In a last-ditch effort to win support, House GOP leaders had agreed to a separate vote on a companion measure that would have blocked President Barack Obama from extending deportation relief to any more immigrants living here illegally. Conservatives wanted a tougher measure. Speaker John Boehner (BAY’-nuhr) says the House will continue to work on solutions to the crisis.
 
     WASHINGTON (AP) – President Barack Obama says federal contractors that violate labor laws shouldn’t get a competitive advantage over companies that play by the rules. Obama Thursday signed an executive order requiring contractors to give their workers more rights in labor disputes. He says he’s taking action because Congress isn’t doing anything to help working Americans. The order comes one day after House Republicans voted to sue Obama for allegedly exceeding his presidential powers.

 
 
     NEW YORK (AP) – Stocks have been sharply lower Thursday. Investors are reacting to disappointing corporate earnings and outlooks from major U.S. companies including Exxon Mobil and Whole Foods. The slide has put major indexes into the red for July, leaving the market on track for its first monthly loss since January.
 
     COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) – Norway’s intelligence service says the Scandinavian country no longer faces an imminent terror threat from people with links to Islamic fighters in Syria. The head of Norway’s security service says new information indicates a terror attack won’t take place now. But she says the overall threat level against Norway remains high. Officials say the information that prompted last week’s warning from the Norwegian government of an impending threat was unspecific about what the target might be, or when or where an attack could take place.
