Larry Unruh, 67, of Jamestown, ND, died Monday, August 25, 2014 at Sanford Health, Bismarck, ND.

Larry Unruh was born on September 9, 1946, in Woodworth, ND, the son of Art and Dorothy (Hewitt) Unruh and was raised on the family farm west of Sykeston, ND. He enjoyed playing basketball in high school and graduated as class president from Sykeston High School in 1964. Larry attended Wahpeton State School of Science for one year before transferring to Union College in Lincoln, NE, where he met Phyllis Cunningham. Larry received a degree in business administration from Union College, and then he and Phyllis were married on June 9, 1968 in Carrington, ND. Larry attained his Master’s degree from the University of San Francisco and worked in hospital administration. For a short time, he and his brother operated a refrigeration business in Enumclaw, WA. Larry returned to hospital administration at Doctor’s Hospital in Tacoma, WA. Later, he worked at Feather River Hospital in Paradise, CA, and then the family moved to Phoenix, AZ where Larry worked for Phoenix Baptist Hospital, later named Vanguard Hospital. He retired as Vice President at the corporate level before returning to North Dakota to be closer to his family. Larry enjoyed driving truck, as well as camping, working in the yard, and the company of his dogs. He was a member of Kiwanis, a leader in Pathfinders for many years, and had a passion for youth involvement and guidance.

Larry will be missed by his wife, Phyllis Unruh, Jamestown; children, Lucinda & Tony Schmidt, San Bernardino, CA, Lorin & Julie Unruh, Castle Rock, CO, and Lorinda & fiancé, Reimy Emmanuel, Unruh, Payton, OH; four grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Arlys and Marlene; and brothers, Delmar and Arvid.

Funeral Service: 1:30p.m., Friday, August 29, 2014 at Seventh-day Adventist Church, Jamestown.

Visitation: 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, August 28, 2014 at Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown.

Prayer Service: 7:00 p.m., Thursday, August 28, 2014 at Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown.

Interment: 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 29, 2014 at New Home Seventh-day Adventist Cemetery, rural Sykeston, ND.
