Linus Hoffart, 86, of Bismarck, ND, formerly of Jamestown, ND, passed away on Thursday, September 25, 2014 surrounded by his loving family and wife of 61 years.

Linus was born on September 2, 1928, near Eckelson, ND to Joseph and Ida (Nelson) Hoffart. He was raised on the farm where he developed a love for the land. Linus met Beulah Mellum in 1950 and they were married on May 5, 1953 at St. James Catholic Church, Jamestown. He entered the US Army in 1953 and was stationed in Germany. Upon his return, he and Beulah started a family on their farm near Eckelson. Later, they moved to Jamestown and Linus continued farming until his retirement in 1987.

Linus was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, Eagles, and V.F.W, and St. James Basilica. He enjoyed traveling and spending winters in Arizona, camping and playing cards.

Linus had a passion for woodworking and made many toys for his grandchildren. He loved joking and visiting with people. Linus was happiest having his family around, telling them how important they were to him and that he was very proud of all of them.

Linus will be missed by his wife, Beulah, Bismarck; children Diana (Robin) Auch, Minot, ND, Donald Hoffart, Aurora, CO, Cheryl (Mark) McPherson, Jamestown, Janice (Terry) Wanzek, Jamestown, Jim Hoffart, Champlin, MN, and Lisa (Kenton) Omvig, Bismarck; 18 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Ardis (Duane) Larson, New Hampton, IA.

He was preceded in death by an infant son; parents; two brothers; and four sisters.

Mass of Christian Burial: 10:00 a.m., Monday, September 29, 2014 at St. James Basilica, Jamestown.

Visitation: 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, September 28, 2014 at Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown, ND.
