Jamestown (CSi) The North Dakota Highway Patrol reports, a Page man was injured after a vehicle that was attempting to pass him collided with his vehicle.

54 year-old Rodney Peterson received chest pain after a 16 year-old Carrington Juvenile attempted to pass him on I-94 Saturday afternoon. Peterson was transported to Sanford Hospital by ambulance to be treated. It is unknown why the 16 year-old driver collided with Peterson while passing him on the Interstate.

Both were wearing their seat belts and the crash remains under investigation.

Valley City (CSi) A federal warrant was been issued for 37-year old Austin Edward Henne of Spiritwood.

Henne was arrested for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Barnes County Sheriff Randy McClaflin says additional charges are pending. No other details have been released.

The case remains under investigation with the Barnes County Sheriff’s Office.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Voters in nine North Dakota cities have the opportunity to make early trips to the polls.

Secretary of State Al Jaeger says early voting will be available in Dickinson, Mandan, Bismarck, Minot, Jamestown, Casselton, West Fargo, Fargo and Grand Forks. Fargo will have two sites.

The first early polling site opens today at the Stutsman County Courthouse in Jamestown.

     The election is Nov. 4.

Jamestown (CSi) The community is invited to celebrate Lisa Hoffman’s 20th anniversary at the DMV office in Jamestown.

The Open House will be on Thursday October 23, 2014 from 1-p.m., to 4-p.m., at the Center for Economic Development, in Downtown Jamestown

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Formal charges are pending against a Bismarck man who allegedly threatened people with what turned out to be a pellet gun.

Police on Sunday responded to reports of a man making violent statements and pointing a handgun at people on East Main Street. Officers located the man at a store parking lot and recovered the pellet gun.

The 18-year-old suspect was taken to jail on a terrorizing charge.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Police in Bismarck say they have arrested a 30-year-old man in connection with a stolen pickup truck that authorities found on fire.

The  Bismarck man has been on an initial charge of theft of a motor vehicle. He has not been publicly identified.

Police say they received a call about a stolen 1979 black pickup truck with Montana license plates around 1:30 p.m. Sunday. The Burleigh County Sheriff’s Department later found it up in flames at a Bismarck park.

Police say the man could also be charged with arson.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) – The Fire Department in Fargo is investigating the cause of a fire that damaged an apartment.

Battalion Chief Craig Nelson says smoke was visible inside the building when fire crews arrived to the scene. Nobody was at the apartment when the blaze started and no injuries were reported.

The building’s occupants were evacuated while fire fighters worked to extinguish the blaze.

The Fargo Fire Department responded with 17 personnel on four engines, one truck and two command vehicles.

MINOT, N.D. (AP) – Crime rates in Minot continue to increase as more residents establish in the area.

In major crimes have almost doubled since 2010. Authorities tallied less than 600 in 2010, but the number reached more than 1,100 last year.

Police Chief Jason Olson says the department’s detective caseloads have doubled even when the number of detectives has gone from seven to 11.

Officials say they’ve noticed a significant increase in methamphetamine-related incidents. Olson says the department used to see one meth arrest for every 10 marijuana arrests. Now, he says, it’s about 50-50.

Olson adds that most of the property crimes such as theft, burglary and breaking and entering are also drug related, as users steal to fund their addiction.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Small farmers and ranchers in North Dakota who once were unable to insure their crops will get a chance to do so in 2015 under a new insurance program.

Small and mid-size producers will be able to insure all of their crops, including cattle and other livestock, under one policy.

The provisions come under the newly announced Whole-Farm Revenue Protection program. Among those to be benefited by the program are small organic, specialty crop and vegetable growers, such as those who sell their products at farmers markets.

The program protects producers against low revenue caused by natural disasters and market fluctuations during the insurance year.

North Dakota Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring says farmers with a wider diversity of crops will pay less of a premium.

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – The University of North Dakota says an official will be working at the school to act as a confidential advocate for student, staff and faculty victims of sexual violence.

The school says it agreed to partner with Grand Forks Community Violence Intervention Center to place an employee from the shelter at the university beginning next month.

Under the plan, the shelter employee would work about 20 hours per week at the university.

Officials say the cost of the effort is estimated at $20,000 annually and the school will pay for it.

The service is provided at no charge.

WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) – A North Dakota health official says methane emissions could be the next big environmental issue facing the state’s oil industry.

Dave Glatt is environmental section chief of the state’s Department of Health. Glatt says the federal Environmental Protection Agency is paying closer attention to emissions of the greenhouse gas and federal regulations could be on the horizon.

He says it’s a good time to see what producers in North Dakota can do to reduce emissions.

Methane is a major component of natural gas. Glatt says leaks, hatches left open and faulty gas flares are often responsible for methane getting from oil facilities to the atmosphere.

The EPA says methane is the second most prevalent greenhouse gas emitted from the U.S. and that the majority of those emissions comes from natural gas and petroleum systems.

MINOT, N.D. (AP) – A company that’s invested billions in North Dakota’s oil patch says it plans to stick around, despite falling prices.

North Dakota oil prices have been slipping over the past few months, dropping as much as one-fourth from about $90 a barrel in June.

Top state oil regulator Lynn Helms said last week that the price drops could halt drilling in some North Dakota counties, though he estimated the impact at less than 10 percent.

Joel Noyes with Hess Corp. says falling prices have caught the attention of the company, but that prices always ebb and flow and Hess has too much invested in North Dakota to leave anyway.

Noyes says Hess is planning to expand its operations in the state in the coming year.

BEULAH, N.D. (AP) – Public hearings are scheduled in Beulah for a proposed wind farm and associated electric transmission line in Mercer County.

The  public hearings will be held Thursday at the Beulah City Hall.

Antelope Hills Wind Project has submitted an application to the North Dakota Public Service Commission for the Antelope Hills Wind Energy Project.

The wind farm will have a capacity of up to 172 megawatts and will use between 75 and 86 wind turbines.

The project’s capacity is equivalent to the energy necessary to power about 17,000 homes.

MANDAN, N.D. (AP) – The Knife River Indian Villages National Historic Site is celebrating its 40th anniversary this weekend.

A ceremony is planned from 1-4 p.m. Central time on Sunday at the site near Stanton.

The site is where Hidatsa and Mandan Indian culture flourished around earth lodge villages for several centuries. Explorers Lewis and Clark visited the site in 1804-1805 when they wintered at Fort Mandan a few miles away.

Congress in 1974 approved making it a national historic site under the administration of the National Park Service. President Gerald Ford signed the bill.

In sports…

Jamestown (CSi)   The Jimmies cruised to a 63-6 win over Mayville State,  after leading 35-0 at the half, Saturday, at Taylor Stadium’s Rollie Greeno Field.

It was a win with mixed emotions, as the Jimmies played without starting safety Wes Worthen, whose mother  unexpectedly passed away Friday, in Georgia.

Starting Safety Caleb Garcia said, “This was for our brother Wes and his family. We’re a family and we’re thinking of him today and what he and his family are going through.”

Jamestown put up  nine TDs  as the offense had 723 yards, to their credit.

On the other side of the ball, the UJ defense forced four turnovers, allowing the one touchdown.

Valley City (CSi)  It certainly wasn’t easy, but the Valley City State football team won it’s sixth
straight game Saturday, holding off Dickinson State for a hard-fought 22-17 victory
at Shelly Ellig Field in Valley City.

After trailing 17-13 at halftime, the Vikings held Dickinson State scoreless in the
second half, rallying past the Blue Hawks for a conference victory on VCSU’s Senior
Day. Valley City State’s winning streak is now at six games as the No. 22-ranked
Vikings improve to 7-1 overall and 4-0 in conference play.

Dickinson State drops to 3-4 overall and 1-1 in conference play.

The Vikings struck first and fast as quarterback Kurtis Walls found Antoine Griffin
for an 86-yard touchdown with 11:13 remaining in the first half, capping off a
98-yard drive. Walls again found Griffin early in the second quarter for a 5-yard
fade to the corner, giving the Vikings a 13-0 lead after the point after was no
good. Griffin finished the day with 15 catches, setting a new single-game reception
record at VCSU. Those 15 catches went for 162 yards and two touchdowns.

After the Vikings went up 13-0, it was all Blue Hawks the rest of the second
quarter. Dickinson used a potent rushing attack to complete touchdown drives of 76
and 75 yards. Jesse Carney’s 39-yard touchdown run made it 13-7 with 10:11 remaining
in the first half. A 28-yard field goal by Josh Born cut the Viking lead to 13-10,
and then quarterback Kayler Ray rushed one in from 2-yards out to give Dickinson a
17-13 lead heading into halftime.

It was all Vikings in the second half. VCSU received to start the half and marched
70 yards on 12 plays, capping off the go-ahead touchdown drive with a 12-yard pass
from Walls to Zach Johnson. The point after attempt was no good, leaving the Vikings
with a slim 19-17 margin.

It was a defensive struggle from there on out, with the Vikings finally breaking
through again early in the fourth quarter. After a 10-play, 58-yard drive, Viking
kicker Thomas Cortes nailed a 30-yard field goal to give the Vikings a 5-point
cushion at 22-17. The Viking defense then made three stops in the final 10 minutes,
preserving the 22-17 victory.

VCSU’s offense received the ball on a punt with 4:39 remaining and proceeded to pick
up four first downs, milking about 4 minutes off the clock. Dickinson forced a punt
with 46 seconds remaining, but the VCSU defense held off Dickinson’s desperation
passes in the final seconds.

Senior running back Ian Keller was a workhouse on the Vikings’ final drive, carrying
the ball six times for 39 yards to help run down the clock. He finished with 118
yards on 24 carries.

Quarterback Kurtis Walls completed 25 of 37 passes for 266 yards and three
touchdowns. He also had two interceptions.

After allowing 149 rushing yards and 233 total yards in the first half, the Viking
defense limited Dickinson to just 55 rushing yards and 94 total yards in the second
half. VCSU out-gained Dickinson 414-327 in total yards. Dickinson led the rushing
yards, 204-146, while the Vikings led the passing yards, 268-123.

Linebacker Nick McBeain led the Viking defense with 14 tackles and a sack. Ethen
Preston had eight tackles and Pathen Asuncion added seven. Dalton Locked tallied
seven tackles and a sack, while Darius Graves had six tackles and two sacks. Steven
Wright had five tackles and recorded VCSU’s only interception of the day.
