hillcrestgolfJamestown (CSi) The Jamestown Park Board has unanimously accepted a letter of resignation from Golf Course Superintendent, Marlyn Bertsch, who had allegedly fueled his personal vehicle from the department’s fuel depot

Parks and Rec Director Doug Hogan said the act was witnessed by two other employees. Bertsch also allegedly used one of the department’s tractors for work on his personal property without prior permission.

In his letter Bertsch said in part that he was resigning “due to circumstances beyond my control.” “While I have been satisfied with my time at Jamestown Parks & Recreation, I feel that the situation has become untenable and it is now time to move on.”

The city park board has unanimously approved financing $1.8 million for improvements to Hillcrest Municipal Golf Course by selling bonds to be paid back over 20 years.

Business Manager Sheila Harr said the amount being financed is $1.5 million, which covers refinancing $355,000 for the winter sports building, $704,000 for almost completed improvements to Hillcrest, plus $500,000 for a new irrigation pond and pumps. The commission decided on the $1.8 million figure to provide a cushion in case there are problems with finishing up the golf course improvements.
