Jamestown (CSi)   The 24th annual Free Community Thanksgiving Day Dinner at the Concordia Lutheran Church served a record 661 turkey dinners on Thursday.

The annual dinner was started by the late Fritz Buegel, former owner of the Pantry Café in the Park Plaza Mall. After Buegel passed away in 1998, organizers decided to continue the tradition.

The community is invited to attend the 24th Annual Thanksgiving Day Dinner at Concordia Lutheran Church, at 502 1st Avenue North in Jamestown.  The church service is at 10-a.m.

Dinner is served from 11-a.m., to 1-p.m., in the church basement, which is handicapped accessible.  Use the east door, with the elevator accessible

Drivers will be available to deliver meals, or give a ride to the church for services and the meal.  Call 252-2819 for delivered meals or rides.

The meal is free, and those invited include single people, parents, families, people working that day, college students, and those who don’t want to cook, and those traveling through the area.

The menu includes turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes & gravy, corn and dessert.

On Monday’s Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, Pastor Tom Eckstein added that the community Thanksgiving dinner started a few years early by Fritz Buegle, who owned and hosted the dinner at the Pantry Cafe in Jamestown.

The event outgrew the Pantry and 24 year ago it started to be hosted by Concordia Lutheran Church in Jamestown, where last year about 600 individuals took part in the dinner, either in person, or through home delivered meals.\
