waterdropphotoTHUMBJamestown (CSi) The Jamestown City Water Department is notifying residents of information about the city’s drinking water.  See Notice.

On Monday’s City Matters program on CSi Cable 10 THE REPLAY CHANNEL, Jamestown Mayor Katie Andersen explained that it is NOT an emergency, however the water department is required to inform those with city drinking water that the Environmental Protection agency and the city did not submit required monitoring samples for lead and copper in their water to the state.

The North Dakota Department of Health informed the city it did not submit 30 acceptable samples during a three-year period that ended September 30, 2014. Testing for lead and copper is performed over longer periods of time than tests for bacteria.

State Health Department Environmental Scientist Amy Kinzler, says “All of the levels of (copper and lead) in samples analyzed were below action levels.”

The North Dakota Department of Health required the city to notify residents of the shortfall in samples.

In June, this year water samples taken at Casey’s General Store in Jamestown tested positive for coliform bacteria. City residents were informed by letter of the problem.  See Notice.  Later tests indicated the problem had been rectified.
