Doris Rode, 85, of Adrian, ND, died Thursday, December 11, 2014 at Ave Maria Village, Jamestown, ND.

Doris Mae Lee was born on May 26, 1929, at the family home in Manns Township. She attended country school through the eighth grade and attended Montpelier and Jamestown High Schools. She helped on the family farm until marrying Paul Rode on September 10, 1950 at the Montpelier Lutheran Church. They made their home on the Rode farm in Adrian where they raised eight children. Doris was a member of the Ladies Aid and Trinity Lutheran Church and the Adrian Homemakers Club. Cooking was an important part of her life and she always had fresh baked goods in her kitchen. She cooked for Montpelier School for three years and the Senior Center in Dickey for twelve years. She enjoyed tending to her flowerbeds, gardening, reading, sewing, quilting and family gatherings.

Doris leaves behind this message for those who were dear to her: “My life has been richly blessed as I watched our family grow up and become good, decent, hardworking individuals with families of their own. Grandkids and great-grandkids are wonderful! So are nieces and nephews. I’ve enjoyed visits and trips with them and it’s been great fun.”

Doris is survived by her children, Neal (Katina), Curtis (Harmony), Dawn (Ike) Carpenter, Lori (Bruce) Dally, Gretchen (Jerome) Barnick, Loren (Patricia), and Paulette (Nathan) Pekarski; twenty grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; sister, Gladys Ukestad; sister-in-law, Elaine Heinrich; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul; sons, Allan and Mark; a sister, Mildred Tvedt; two brothers, Leonard and Henry Lee; and her parents, Bert O. and Thilda Lee.
