JM ChamberOutstanding Citizen of the Year Award

The Jamestown Area Chamber of Commerce will once again present the Outstanding Citizen of the Year Award at their Annual Awards Banquet in late January. Nomination letters should be submitted to the chamber office by Friday, January 9, 2015 at 5 p.m.

The guidelines for submitting a nomination are as follows:

1. Such an award shall be determined primarily for services and benefits rendered to other people or for other objectives over and beyond excellence in one’s own professional, business, service or enterprise and extend over a period of two years or more.

2. The award shall be given to an individual who is a Jamestown-area resident.

3. The nomination letter should list the significant achievement(s) by the nominee that have resulted in recognizable benefits to the community.

4. The candidate must be well-known and respected in the community.

5. The candidate must actively participate in community-oriented projects that are beneficial to the community as a whole. The welfare of the community should be a priority of the candidate.

6. Accomplishments over the applicant’s entire lifetime may be considered, but emphasis should be given to those achieved within the past several years.

7. Wealth or social position should not be a criterion.

8. The committee should be cautious in considering someone who has gained substantial publicity and prestige because of his or her political, business, financial or social status, although reasons for attaining this status could be important factors in making a choice.

9. Consideration should take into account what the individual has done to make our community a better place to live.

10. All nominations must be in writing and include information to support it. They must be signed by the person making the nomination and include the nominator’s address and phone number.

11. The nominee does not have to be a member of the chamber of commerce.
