BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota’s Health Department has confirmed a case of active tuberculosis in Mountrail County.

The state is working with local school and health officials to provide free testing to those who might have been exposed to the infectious case of TB.

Tuberculosis is a serious but treatable disease that is infectious only in the “active” state.  It can be spread through droplets if an infected person coughs or sneezes in close contact with an uninfected person.

The infected person in Mountrail County has been asked to stay home and will not return until the person’s health care provider has determined that he or she is no longer infectious.
