EllingsonLeeWDAY 6  News Report…..Friends and family of the man charged in Jamestown’s officer involved shooting are voicing their frustrations with Stutsman County law enforcement.

They say authorities are not telling them the truth about Lee Ellingson’s condition and are sending the wrong information to the public.

Cell phone video shows the incident that caused 43-year-old Lee Ellingson’s injuries. The Tracy, MN man was shot by Stutsman County authorities after they say he led them on a high speed chase and rammed two squad cars.

Scott Sour/Ellingson’s Close Friend, “They could’ve shot his tires out. They could’ve done everything, but shoot him. Are you kidding?”

Authorities originally said Ellingson was transported to the Jamestown Regional Medical Center, but friends and family say he was air lifted to Fargo where he was rushed to intensive care at Sanford.

Sour, “They almost blew his whole arm from hand to elbow completely apart, off.”

They say hospital staff won’t let them visit or even confirm he’s a patient there. After speaking with Ellingson this morning, they learned he had to have reconstructive surgery and is still recovering.

Sour, “They had to completely reconstruct his arm and wire it because there wasn’t any bone matter left to fuse to put his arm back together.”

Authorities would not confirm his location or condition, but have charged Ellingson with three felonies: reckless endangerment, criminal mischief, and DUI.

Sour, “To get shot for a traffic offense is pretty darn crazy.”

Prosecutors also wouldn’t comment and have not set a date for his initial court appearance.

Sanford staff also would not say if Ellingson is a patient there.

The North Dakota BCI is investigating and two officers are on leave following the shooting.
