Gene Gossett, 88, of Jamestown, ND, passed away on Friday afternoon, March 20, 2015 at Ave Maria Village, Jamestown.

Gene was born on October 17, 1926, in Jamestown, the son of Hiram and Mary (Johnson) Gossett. He graduated from Jamestown High School in 1944 and then enlisted in the Merchant Marines. Gene served in the Atlantic, Mediterranean, Pacific theaters during WWII while circumnavigating the world.

Gene returned to Jamestown after being discharged and was employed as a locomotive fireman by the Northern Pacific Railway. He was promoted to locomotive engineer, a position he held for 43 years until retiring on January 1, 1989. Gene and DeLoris White were married on December 15, 1950 in Jamestown.

Gene was a charter member of the United Transportation Union and its predecessor, and the Brotherhood Locomotive Firemen and Enginemen.

He is survived by his wife DeLoris Gossett; two children, Jon (Anne) Gossett children Hunter, Autumn, Jebediah of Fargo and Matt Stanga of Colorado. Susan (Paul) Jensen children Dustin (Mary) Jensen of Denver, Casey and daughter Brynn of Jamestown. Sister, Mary Fredricks of Jamestown and sister-in-law, Lois Pfaff of Lisbon, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, John, Ray, Roy; and sisters, Viola Nichols and Ruby Tuman.

Memorial Service: 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at the Good Shepherd Chapel, Ave Maria Village, Jamestown, with Deacon Tom Geffre officiating.
