(CSi) Beech-Nut Nutrition has issued a voluntary recall of 1,920 pounds of baby food after a consumer was injured by a small piece of glass in one of its products.
The recall was announced Tuesday by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), which classified it as a Class I recall.
“This is a health hazard situation where there is a reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death,” a release from the USDA reads.
The recall is for 4-oz. glass jars of “Stage 2 Beech-Nut CLASSICS sweet potato & chicken” produced on December 12, 2014.
The jars were shipped to stores nationwide. Beech-Nut products are available at a number of major grocery stores and retailers
The recalled items contain the establishment number “P-68A” and product numbers “12395750815” through “12395750821”. Check labels from the USDA.
Beech-Nut, based in Amsterdam, N.Y., said on its website that it issued a voluntary recall out of an “abundance of caution” after receiving a single report of an oral injury associated with eating one of the products. Customers can return the products to stores for a refund, and can call the Beech-Nut Consumer Hotline at (866) 674-4446 with any questions.
