FARGO, N.D. (AP) — Democratic U.S. Sen.-elect Heidi Heitkamp says she has been asked to serve on the Senate Agriculture Committee.

Heitkamp narrowly defeated Republican Rick Berg in Tuesday’s election. She said during an appearance in Fargo on Thursday that Michigan Democratic Sen. Debbie Stabenow asked her to fill the spot on the Agriculture Committee.

Heitkamp says she would like to see a farm bill passed in the lame duck session of Congress
