Heather Kurtz, 33, of Jamestown, ND, passed away Wednesday evening, April 15, 2015, at Jamestown Regional Medical Center.

        Heather was born on July 24, 1981, in Medina, ND, the daughter of Daniel and Sherry (Cook) Sherman. She grew up on the family farm near Carrington, ND helping raise cattle & horses and was active in rodeos. Heather graduated from Carrington High School in 1999 and joined the National Guard at age 17. She served one tour to Iraq from December 2003 to February 2005. She and Philip Kurtz were married on May 11, 2007 and made their home in Jamestown. Their daughter, Cadence, was born on May 18, 2008. Heather served the National Guard for twelve years while managing the Buffalo City Grille, and later the Depot. She played softball and was on a pool league.

Heather loved to cook and entertain; she was happiest when cooking for family and friends.

“Team Heather” was born in May 2009 when she began her fight with cancer. “Team Heather” reached to the edges of two countries through many dear friends and family in between.

Heather is survived by her husband, Philip Kurtz; daughter, Cadence Kurtz; mother, Sherry Cook Sander; father, Daniel Sherman; sister, Jessica Sherman and her children, Jayden and Brody; sister, Cally (Bryan) Stromberg; and grandmother, Ellen Sherman.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Cecelia & Max Cook; grandfather, Russell Sherman; and uncle, Scott Cook.

Funeral Service: 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 18, 2015 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Jamestown.

Visitation: One hour before the services at the church. Arrangements are in the care of Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown.

Prayer Service: 7:00 p.m., Friday, April 17, 2015 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Jamestown.

Interment: St. Jerome (Crow Hill) Cemetery, Ft. Totten, ND.
