saundersflipTHUMBMINNEAPOLIS (AP) – Flip Saunders, Minnesota Timberwolves president of basketball operations, says he will also serve as the team’s coach “until I feel we need to move in a different direction.”

Saunders appointed himself last summer to succeed Rick Adelman. Thanks to a rash of injuries and a shift to more of a youth movement, the Wolves went an NBA-worst 16-66.

As the season wound down, Saunders said he was leaning toward returning for another season. In giving his state of the team address on Monday, he gave no indication those views have changed.

He says he believes it was the right decision to take over as coach.

The Timberwolves will have the best odds to get the No. 1 pick in the NBA draft lottery on May 19.
