Peter Schmidt was born to Anton J. and Elizabeth (Feist) Schmidt on November 6, 1923 on a farm in Kintyre, ND. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Kintyre, ND. He graduated from eighth grade at Weigel School District #3 and continued to work on the family farm until his induction into the military in 1945. He served his country in Japan and the Philippine Islands during the last part of World War II. In the military, Peter served as a medic and worked in the car pool. He was honorably discharged in December of 1946. Peter married Elizabeth Jacob at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, Napoleon, ND, on January 20, 1947. He and his wife farmed 2 years in Braddock, ND and then moved to Jud and farmed for an additional 4 years. They moved into Edgeley in 1954 where Peter was employed at the Farmers’ Union LP Plant until he retired in1977. In his last years, Peter kept Edgeley lawns mowed, and the driveways cleared of snow. In his spare time, Peter and his wife, Elizabeth, and his friends in Edgeley would go fishing in the many lakes in the nearby area. In November of 2011, he joined the Napoleon Care Center family where he lived until his death on May 4, 2015. Peter was a member of Transfiguration Catholic Church, Edgeley, ND and the Edgeley Knights of Columbus. His survivors include four sons, Philip (Melanie), Cummins, GA, Anthony (Debra), Demascus, OR, Lawrence (Valerie), Rogers, AR; two daughters, Mary Jane (Charles) Kottsick, Mandan, ND, Vonda (Stuart) Lane, Lakewood, CO; one sister, Theresia Doll, Napoleon, ND; two brothers, Pius (Veronica), Kintyre, ND and Leo (Idora), Hazelton, ND; thirteen grandchildren; nine great grandchildren and many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Elizabeth; three sons, James, Paul, Robert; his parents, Anton and Elizabeth; three brothers, Valentine, John, and Ray; and two sisters, Frances and Julia. Mass of Christian Burial: 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 8, 2015 at Transfiguration Catholic Church, Edgeley, ND. Visitation: 4:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 7, 2015 at Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel, Edgeley. Vigil: 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 7, 2015 at Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel, Edgeley. Interment: Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Edgeley, ND.
