Ilano Xinos new National Buffalo Museum Director

Jamestown (CSi) The National Buffalo Museum in Jamestown has a new director. Ilano Xinos began her position on May 4.

She passed along her thoughts in the recent Jamestown Downtown Association newsletter.

“This time of year, when you hear about an addition to the National Buffalo Museum, it is typically an addition to the herd in the form of a baby bison. Not so for this addition. The museum recently hired me as its new Executive Director. I have called Jamestown home since 2008. My main responsibility is to ensure that the museum achieves its mission: “to foster awareness of the cultural and historical significance of the North American bison.”

I see community involvement as a necessary component of sustaining the
vision of the museum’s founders. I planto spread the word about the museum
and its mission within the community in hopes of growing our membership – it
is surprising how many people in Jamestown don’t know about or have never been to the museum. Buffalo are part of what makes Jamestown unique, and getting the community involved in what we do will be a way to maintain
Jamestown’s distinct character as “The Buffalo City.”

Another way to become involved in the museum is to volunteer. Expanding
the museum’s volunteer base will help us make changes to its exhibits and increase educational program offerings.

The museum has only two full-time employees, part-time gaming employees,
and seasonal help, and like many other nonprofits, relies on the help of volunteers. If your organization is interested in partnering with the us, or if you or someone you know wants to know more about the membership options or
