tracplan500Jamestown (CSi) The next informational community forum on the proposed Two Rivers Activity Center will be on May 15, 2015, at the North Dakota Farmers Union headquarters. The forum begins at 7 p.m.

Jamestown city voters will vote on June 2, 2015, on a $28.6 million bond issue on a special election ballot. The ballot will ask voters if they want to approve a 1 percent sales tax to repay bonds used to finance the construction and operation of the first phase of the $28.6 million project.

The second phase, would be paid for by a separate capital fundraising campaign, bring the total cost for the project to about $40 million.

The Two Rivers Activity Center’s Board of Directors has heard from Jamestown Public Schools, Superintendent Rob Lech, who has presented a draft plan that outlines what services the school could expect in exchange for its donation of 7.75 acres of land for the proposed TRAC facility.

TRAC Board Treasurer Amy Walters said the plan was not a signed agreement but rather the start of discussions about how the TRAC facility could be utilized by the school, if it is built.

Lech said the document was developed in discussions with Walters and the athletic directors at Jamestown High School and Jamestown Middle School, adding that the draft use plan was an effort to project what uses the school might require from the TRAC facility.  The TRAC facility would replace the existing James River Family Fitness Center, which is shared with the University of Jamestown, which owns the space where the Fitness Center is located.
