Deputy Sgt. Damian Hoyt says the LEC dispatch was notified by the OnStar service concerning a vehicle that had gone into Pipestem Lake, off 78th Avenue Southeast, between 30th and 31st Street Southeast.
Hoyt says 19 year old Taylor Uehran, of Pingree, was driving a 2013 Chevrolet Cruze car north on 78th Avenue Southeast. 20 year old Kelly Thomas, also of Pingree was a passenger in the car.
Hoyt says Uehran took a wrong turn and drove into Pipestem Lake.
The car went about 30 yards into the lake and was motionless in the water at about 5 a.m. Sunday.
Uehran activated the OnStar button on the car, prior to both getting out of the car, and then swimming about an eighth mile across the lake.
Hoyt says Uehran put her cellphone in her teeth to keep it dry, and called 9-1-1 while swimming.
No injuries were reported.
The car was removed Sunday afternoon.
Hoyt said Uehran was cited for driving while under the influence of alcohol and Thomas was cited for minor in possession of alcohol.
