Edwin Nitschke, 86, of Jamestown, ND, died Saturday afternoon, May 23, 2015 at Eventide at Jamestown.

Edwin Nitschke was born on December 24, 1928, near Jud, ND, the son of Mathias and Katherina (Leppert) Nitschke. He grew up on the family farm and received his elementary education in the Jud Public School. In January of 1951, he enlisted in the National Guard, 164th Infantry of Edgeley. The unit was activated into the US Army January 16, 1951 and was sent to Camp Rucker, AL for basic training. After training, Edwin was shipped to Japan, and then to Korea for over a year. He received the Korean service medal with two stars, United Nations service medal and Unit Citation. He was honorably discharged with rank of Corporal on November 16, 1953.

Edwin married Luella Koenig on April 2, 1953. They lived south of Alfred, ND for a year, and then farmed in the Montpelier area until he retired from farming in 1993. Edwin then worked for the Adrian Elevator for 10 years. He served on the Montpelier Township board for many years. They moved to Jamestown on October 24, 2004.

Edwin is survived by his wife, Luella Nitschke. They were blessed with three wonderful children: David (Shelley), Donna (Doyle) Edwards, and Diane Waldie; six grandchildren, Briea & Dara, Ryan & Lance and Wade & Hagen; and four great grandchildren, Riley & Aiden and Reagan & Harper.

He was preceded in death by his parents and all of his brothers and sisters.

Funeral Service: 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 28, 2015 at Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown.

Visitation: 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown.

Interment: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown.
