raingaugeJamestown (CSi)  South central and Southeast North Dakota slowly dries out from heavy rain from the weekend.

On Saturday evening the event began in Jamestown and the area with thunderstorms that trained through early Sunday morning.  Some pea size hail occurred around midnight Saturday in Jamestown.

On Saturday The National Weather Service recorded .40 inches of rain, while the CSi Weather computer, downtown at Historic Franklin School recorded 1.61 inches.

The rain continued Sunday until late morning with a Flood Warning issued until 12:30 pm for  Southwest Stutsman and Northeastern Kidder County, that received 5-6 inches of rain.  On Sunday, the official rainfall total was 1.97 inches, while the CSi Weather computer registered 1.88 inches.

The James River in Jamestown rose from four and a half feet  on Saturday afternoon to 6.36 feet on Sunday morning.  This morning the river had dropped to 5.26 feet.

Valley City’s official two day total was 1.34 inches as of 7-am Monday.

The Sheyenne River in Valley City rose from just under 6 feet Friday morning to 6.15 feet Sunday morning.  On Monday morning the level was at 6.14 feet.

The forecast for Monday is sunny, with a return to rain possibly heavy on Tuesday afternoon and evening, continuing into Wednesday morning.
