Pingree, ND (CSi) – The North Dakota Highway patrol reports a fatal head-on pickup and semi truck crash occurred at 3:12am July 3, 2015,  3.5 miles north of Pingree on Highway 52, killing the  driver of the pickup.

The 2014 Ram pickup driven by  24 year Adam Allmaras of New Rockford was southbound, then drifted onto the northbound lane.

The International semi truck, driven by 56 year old Bernard Gorman of Adrian,  was northbound.  Gorman attempted to avoid the crash by braking and driving onto the east shoulder.   A crash occurred, causing the International to enter the east ditch.  The Ram came to rest on the southbound lane.

The extent of injuries to Gorman have not been released.  Sgt Tom Herzig of the ND Highway Patrol estimates $35,000 in damages to the pickup,  and $30,000 to the International Semi.  Gorman was wearing a seatbelt.  It is unknown if the driver of the pickup was wearing a seatbelt.

The highway was shut down for two hours.  The crash remains under investigation.

Agencies involved Stutsman and Foster County Sheriff Offices, Pingree and Carrington Fire/Rescue, and Carrington PD.

Jamestown, (CSi)  The Young Professionals of Jamestown (YPJ), a sub-committee of the Jamestown Chamber of Commerce, are hosting a co-ed Sand Volleyball tournament in partnership with White Cloud Days.

White Cloud Days is scheduled for July 10-12; with the volleyball tournament scheduled on July 11th. Game play will take place at the Jamestown Parks and Rec courts next to Wilson Arena (the Larson Center has been reserved in the case of inclement weather.) Cost is only $60 per team and winning team will receive a cash out prize of $120. Games start at 11am and continue throughout the day. Only 8 slots are available and teams must pre-register! BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – The North Dakota Industrial Commission has named a new director of the North Dakota Transmission Authority. Tyler Hamman replaces Andrea Stomberg, who had served for about a year. Before his appointment, Hamman served as director of governmental affairs for the Lignite Energy Council.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Superintendent of Public Instruction Kirsten Baesler says two North Dakota teachers have won Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching. Scott Johnson, a teacher at Century High School in Bismarck, and Cynthia Nelson, who teaches at Central High School in Grand Forks, are among 108 teachers nationwide who received the award. It is the nation’s highest honor for math and science teachers.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Bismarck and Mandan’s public transit system is celebrating 25 years of service. KXMB-TV reports Bis-Man Transit began with three buses. It now has more than 20 buses and serves about 13,000 customers. A public event will be held at the transit center on July 15th to celebrate the milestone.

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – The state’s congressional delegation says the University of North Dakota’s Rural Health Center has been awarded a $2.1 million grant. The funds will be used to support the school’s Rural Assistance Center, which is an online portal that provides rural communities with access to programs, funding and research. The school’s facility is designated by federal authorities as one of six national rural health research centers.

ROSEMOUNT, Minn. (AP) – Authorities say a southeastern Minnesota man has been struck and killed by a car swerving to avoid traffic stopped after a top blew off a Jeep in Dakota County. The State Patrol says 46-year-old John Ostrom of Fountain was driving on U.S. Highway 52 on Sunday when his pickup hit the Jeep’s roof. Police say Ostrom was standing in the median when he was struck by another car.

GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. (AP) – The American Humane Society in the Twin Cities is adding photos of stray dogs it takes in to a database that uses facial-recognition technology to reunite lost pets with their owners. The organization started adding photos to the smartphone application Finding Rover’s database last week. Humane Society officials say it’s another tool in helping to find pets’ owners.

ABERDEEN, S.D. (AP) – Authorities say a female prisoner was found unconscious and not breathing in a Brown County holding cell. The woman was taken to a local hospital on Sunday morning. Brown County Deputy Keith Baker says there were no signs of foul play. He says the woman was jailed on a bond violation.

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) – The South Dakota Public Utilities Commission has slated a public hearing on the Keystone XL pipeline project. The hearing is set for Monday evening at the state Capitol in Pierre. It’s expected to last three hours. The pipeline would cut through South Dakota and other states to move Canadian oil to the Gulf Coast.

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) – A Pierre policeman has been named officer of the year by the South Dakota Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Ladies Auxiliary. Richard Bauman received the award in recognition of his bravery. Pierre Police Chief Dave Panzer says that Bauman was honored for saving a life.
