(CSi) Jamestown Regional Medical Center is excited to announce that they will be hosting transcontinental runner Helene Neville on July 10 and 11, both at the hospital and in the White Cloud parade. She will be running through Jamestown on July 10 beginning at 8 am from the Jamestown High School parking lot and invites runners to join her adventure to the JRMC campus with a brief presentation to follow. On July 11, Helene will join the JRMC team in the White Cloud parade.
Helene is a four-time cancer survivor, nurse, grandmother and author who decided to start running to “challenge what’s impossible through action and inspire others to do the same.” She is currently in the process of running the perimeter of the continental United States, becoming one of four people to ever accomplish the feat. While on her journey, she stops along the way to share her story and promote health and hope at hospitals, schools, cancer centers, military bases and fire departments.
“Life happens only once, why keep the best for last when we don’t know when last will come?” Helene has said. According to her website, all that remains between her and her transcontinental goal is 3,680 miles and 13 states.
Helene states that she runs for the reflection of the human spirit, for nurses, causes, and to meet people across the nation. As the benefactor of her perimeter fund, the Mary Ellen Rouse Neifert Memorial Fund provides many educational activities and wonderful experiences to children at St. Francis de Sales Grammar School in Philadelphia, PA. This living memorial was set up in honor of Helene’s mother, Mary Ellen, who passed away in 2002.
JRMC is excited to help create awareness for Helene and cancer awareness as they work towards the development of oncology in Jamestown early this winter. The process will be done in multiple phases with the plan to launch phase 1 including the customization of the current JRMC Clinic space to create appropriate rooms for care and provide the necessary tools and equipment to launch enhanced oncology services.
“It is our goal at JRMC to do what is in the best interest of the patient. We are very excited as we continue to develop enhanced oncology services including chemotherapy, and grow awareness in Jamestown,” says K.C. DeBoer, president and CEO of JRMC.
Join Helene and JRMC by running through Jamestown on July 10, starting at the Jamestown High School parking lot at 8 am. Stay tuned with the Ingstad Family Radio rover on stations Big Dog 95.5 FM, The Raven 103.1, Ted FM 98.3 and 102.7 and Q101.1 throughout the morning to learn where Helene and her runners are on her run to the JRMC campus. During this time we will also be sharing about JRMC’s journey to oncology and personal stories. Be sure to join her at JRMC afterwards for a short presentation and refreshments.
