Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown Area Grief Support Team is offering a grief support group for anyone who is grieving the loss of someone important to them, whether the loss is recent or from years past. The group will meet at 7:00 p.m. at Grace Episcopal Church, 407 2nd Ave NE in Jamestown beginning on Tuesday, August 11, 2015 and will run for 6 weeks.

On Thursday’s Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable2, JAGST member, Diane Witzig said, the session will be based on the book, Understanding Your Grief, by internationally recognized expert in the field of loss and grief, Dr. Alan Wolfelt.

She pointed that the book states, “You can benefit from a connectedness that comes from people who have also had a death in their lives. Support groups, where people come together and share the common bond of experience, can be invaluable in helping you and your grief and supporting your need to mourn long after the event of the death”

She added that in our fast paced society, people who have had a significant loss are often expected to be ‘over it’ in a matter of a few weeks. They may even expect this of themselves. In reality, it may take years for someone to work through his or her grief. The support group experience allows individuals to express grief in their own unique way and on their own unique timetable.

The group is free of charge, however, participants are asked to register to ensure that enough materials are available. For more information, or to register, please call Diane at 320-4915 or Eileen at 251-1280 (evenings).

KEENE, N.D. (AP) – A three-vehicle crash in McKenzie County has killed three people and injured three others.

The Highway Patrol didn’t immediately identify any of the people involved in the incident shortly before 7 p.m. Thursday on a county road north of Keene.

Authorities say a car driven by an Arizona woman tried to pass a pickup, then hit the truck after noticing an oncoming vehicle and trying to get back into her original lane. The truck collided head-on with the oncoming sport utility vehicle.

The SUV overturned in the ditch. The Idaho man driving it died at the scene, along with a male passenger from Michigan. A male passenger from Watford City died at a Minot hospital.

Another SUV passenger and the pickup’s two occupants were injured. The car’s driver wasn’t hurt.

NEW TOWN, N.D. (AP) – Authorities have identified a man who died in a house fire near New Town and say no foul play is suspected in the death.

The body of 74-year-old Ronald White Owl, of New Town, was found July 23 after New Town firefighters responded to the blaze in the Van Hook area on Lake Sakakawea.

The state medical examiner ruled the death an accident. The Mountrail County Sheriff’s Office and Three Affiliated Tribes police are continuing to investigate.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) -Two executives with pilot licenses were flying the Allegiant Air jet that made an emergency landing in Fargo because it nearly ran out of fuel.

An Allegiant spokeswoman says management pilots routinely operate flights to maintain their certification and track day-to-day operations.

The airline says vice president of flight operations Greg Baden and director of flight safety Michael Wuerger were at the controls of the July 23rd flight with 144 passengers on board.

The plane left Las Vegas more than an hour late, according to tracking service FlightAware.com. By the time it reached Fargo, the airport was temporarily closed so the Navy’s Blue Angels flight team could practice for an air show.

One of the pilots told an air traffic controller he didn’t have enough fuel to reach another airport.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) – A North Dakota man has been sentenced to more than 11 years in prison in a sexual abuse case that goes back about 18 years.

A jury in November found Donald Luger guilty of aggravated sexual abuse by use of force. Authorities say the assault took place against a 12-year-old girl in 1997.

Prosecutors argued for a sentence of 20 years. Defense attorneys asked for a sentence of two to three years.

U.S. District Judge Ralph Erickson sentenced Luger, of Fort Yates, to 138 months in prison, to be followed by five years of supervised release.

Luger’s attorney could not be immediately reached for comment.

WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) – An Arkansas woman working at a strip club in the North Dakota oil patch hub of Williston is accused of assaulting two police officers.

Authorities say 24-year-old Wendy Stuard, of North Little Rock, Arkansas, was approached by officers last weekend because she was shouting profanities in the street outside Heartbreakers.

Stuard allegedly struck two officers in the face before they subdued her with a stun gun. The officers suffered cuts and bruises.

Court documents do not list an attorney for Stuard. She is due in court on Sept. 10 and could enter pleas then to felony charges that could land her in prison for up to 15 years if she’s convicted.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Concealed-carry permit holders will have more places where they can legally have firearms.

A new measure that goes into effect on Saturday allows permitted gun owners to pack heat at public parks, political functions, musical concerts, public rest areas and liquor stores. The bill also allows people to carry a single-shot electronic stun gun without having to obtain a concealed-carry permit.

The measure is among more than 300 new laws that take effect Aug. 1.

One new law will allow restaurants to serve alcohol at 11 a.m. instead of noon on Sundays.

Another new law makes it a crime to post sexually explicit images of someone online without their consent. That law also allows for a victim of the postings to pursue civil damages.

The grant program provides financial assistance for new recreation programs geared toward communities with a population of 13,000 people or less, and for political subdivisions to build outdoor recreation facilities.

More information can be found at the Parks and Rec website, www.parkrec.nd.gov . The site also will have applications starting Saturday.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Highway Patrol troopers in states bordering western South Dakota are giving extra attention to traffic flocking to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.

Organizers are planning for up to a million people for the rally’s 75th anniversary next week.

In southwestern North Dakota, the patrol is dedicating up to 30 overtime hours to the cause, at a cost of about $2,000.

The Montana Highway Patrol says it’s paying “special attention” to traffic routes favored by rally-goers, but spokesman John Barnes didn’t comment on whether any overtime hours were involved.

In Nebraska, there are additional patrols on some highways but no dedicated overtime. Capt. Paul Hattan says Nebraska’s mandatory helmet law prompts many riders to bypass the state.

In Wyoming, the patrol has secured $125,000 in federal highway grant money for ramped-up enforcement.
