DegenNellieLiasionJamestown (CSi) The Stutsman County Commission will be giving local law enforcement a survey to help determine if they should implement, the North Dakota Public Employees Retirement System (PERS.)

The system allows officers to make their own contributions so they may retire at an earlier date.

FOP Liaison Nellie Degen stated that the decision was made during this month’s Stutsman County Commissioners meeting.

She received a letter from Bowman County Sheriff Rory M. Teigen stating the benefits of PERS.

Teigen said, “My county has been with the PERS Law Enforcement since it was offered from the State. At the time, it would allow me to retire 2 years earlier than the normal PERS. Many counties have picked up the extra percentage, but here the deputies pickup their own.”

The Fraternal Order of Police is the world’s largest organization of sworn law enforcement officers with more than 325,000 members in more than 2,100 lodges across the U.S.
