Ft. Ransom (CSi) Sodbuster Days comes to Fort Ransom State Park Saturday and Sunday, September 12-13, 2015.
Sodbuster Days is the opportunity to look at how North Dakota’s early settlers harvested crops and celebrated a successful growing season.
There are various historical demonstrations on both days, running Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
The Fort Ransom Sodbusters Association field demonstrations include: potato digging and picking; bundling oats; binding and shucking corn; and cutting, loading and storage of hay. Related demonstrations include: cooking, small engines, blacksmithing, horse-drawn machinery, kids’ crafts, wheelwright, kids games and live music — all part of living and working in early North Dakota. Sunday kicks off with a pancake breakfast from 7 to 9:30 a.m. followed by a parade at 10:30 a.m.
The daily park fee is waived, but a $7 fee will be charged per person with children ages 12 and under admitted free. There will be plenty of food and refreshments available throughout the event. There is old- time music throughout the event and an Old Time Jam Session Saturday evening. Church services are being held Sunday morning.
The event is sponsored by the Fort Ransom Sodbuster Association and North Dakota Parks and Recreation Department.
