JACKSON, Miss. (AP) – The latest on a shooting at Delta State University that left a professor dead. The professor who was shot and killed in his office at a university in Mississippi Monday has been identified.
A deputy coroner says Ethan Schmidt was killed in his office at Delta State University. He worked in the school’s history department. The suspect remains at large, and hasn’t been identified. But state police say the shooter is no longer believed to be on the campus.
According to Fox News,
” Cops believe Prof. Shannon Lamb, 45, shot and killed Prof. Ethan Schmidt as Schmidt sat at his desk in a building on the Cleveland, Miss. campus. Police in Gautier, Miss. also suspect Lamb in the murder there of 41-year-old Amy Prentiss, who was killed before Schmidt. Lamb was reported to be romantically involved with the woman. Lamb, a geography and social science education instructor, allegedly believed the woman was also in a relationship with Schmidt. Lt. Scott Wilson and another unidentified officer told a news conference in Gauthier late Monday they had spoken with Lamb and “he’s not going to jail.” They did not elaborate on how or when they spoke with the suspect.”
