Jamestown (CSi) Strides for Change is an eight week indoor walking and exercise program, designed to instill a healthy life style in individuals in the community.
On Friday’s Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2 the University of Jamestown’s Foss Wellness Center Program Directorand Kinesiology Instructor, Madey Ranum said that the American Heart Association, Centers for Disease Control, & American College of Sports Medicine has recommend a MINIMUM of 150 min. of moderate intensity aerobic exercise (ex: brisk walking) weekly to MAINTAIN health. That’s 30 min. 5 days a week.
Studies show that less than 30% of Americans are achieving these recommended guidelines.
The purpose of the program is to help improve those figures by providing an opportunity to make it easier for people in our community to meet those guidelines.
Benefits of the program includes:
Close supervision – UJ exercise science students are there to walk and talk with you every step of the way, as explained on our show by UJ senior, Sydney Jeffers, who monitors blood pressures at the event, majoring in Exercise Science.
Heart rate & Blood Pressure monitoring – provided throughout the sessions to make you sure you are exercising at an effective yet safe intensity
Safe & Social Environment – stay motivated by meeting others with similar fitness goals
The program is held at the James River Family Fitness (Formerly the James River YMCA) Indoor walking track at the main gym, Starting September 28, 2015, Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 1-p.m., to 1:50-p.m., and runs through Friday November 20th.
The cost is $15, or free with a JRFF membership, and $10 if referred by a JRFF member.
