UnivJmstarena3Jamestown (CSi) The University of Jamestown has unveiled plansĀ  for a proposed $14 million, 49,000 square-foot arena, on campus.

A generous donation from the late Harold Newman launched the project, part of a $60 million campaign initiated by the University in 2013.

The new arena plans to include a training facility, training tables for athletes, treadmills and stationary bikes.

Newman Arena will have 2,000 seats with room for overflow.

After the arena opens, the Hansen Center on the UJ campus will be converted into a lower level dining area and gathering spot for students.

UnivJmstarena2Other possible facilities at the area may include a bowling area or indoor theater. An exterior addition of an ice rink for wintertime and sand volleyball area may added as well.

A bell will be constructed and after each Jimmie win, the bell will be rung that may be heard all over town.

Construction may start in the spring of 2016, and is estimated to be completed in about 15 to 18 months.
