(CSi)  North Dakota’s 11 public higher education schools will be training  for responding to emergencies including  “active shooter” situations. The North Dakota University System says each institution is required to have such plans.

Eight years in the aftermath of the Virginia Tech massacre tighter campus security measures, are to be in place.  The Associated Press discovered that some universities make “active shooter” training mandatory for incoming students, and others offer little guidance on what to do if there’s a gunman on the loose.

The North Dakota university system says all campuses run drills to prepare for emergencies. Schools share their plans with employees and students and some provide crisis information in their smartphone apps.

The system recently advertised for a position that will be responsible for reviewing the emergency preparedness plan of each institution.
