Joyce Johnson, age 85, of Valley City, ND, died Thursday, November 5th at Essentia Health, Fargo, ND. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM Tuesday, November 10th at Grace Free Lutheran Church in Valley City. Visitation will be held on Monday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Lerud Schuldt Funeral Home in Valley City and one hour before the service at the church on Tuesday morning. Interment will be in Woodbine Cemetery in Valley City.

Joyce Elaine Haugom, the daughter of Ralph and Olga (Bjerke) Haugom, was born September 12, 1930 on the family farm in Lily, South Dakota. They moved to Clark, South Dakota, where she grew up and graduated from High School. She attended Augustana College and then taught in a rural school for two years. She lived and worked several years on the West Coast before moving to Valley City. She worked at the ASCS office where she met Clayton. They were married on April 20, 1957 in Moorhead, MN. Joyce worked several years as a receptionist for Drs. Reslock and Cummings and then for Dr. Neil Macdonald. Joyce was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, and Our Saviors Lutheran Church where she held several offices in women’s organizations and taught Bible School and Sunday school. She later attended and was a member at Faith Lutheran Church. She had currently been living at the Rudolph where she had many dear friends who had become like family to her. Joyce loved her family more than life itself. She adored time with her kids, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed fishing, Bingo with friends, and long drives in the country. Joyce had a great sense of humor and always provided a good laugh for those she was around.

She is survived by daughters LaDeen (Eldred) Knutson, Valley City, Lori (John) Middlestead of Argusville, Lisa (Myron) VanBruggen, Valley City and one son Larry (Carrie) Johnson of Fargo. She has five grandchildren Heather, Emily, Joshua, Shana and Amber and three great grandchildren Destiny, Paxton and Avery. She has one brother Ronald (Sandy) Haugom, Bismarck and one sister Donna (Lynn) Zacharias, Sioux Falls, SD, one nephew Shawn, a niece Kelly and several extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and an infant brother.
