Albert Meidinger was born July 11, 1924 to Fred and Karolina (Hieb) Meidinger on a farm northwest of Hosmer, South Dakota, one of nine children. He started his education at Castle #3, a country school near Hosmer where Ms. E. Stroble was the teacher. The family moved to a farm south of Luverne, North Dakota when he was ten years old. He started the fourth grade at Baldwin Consolidated School and continued grade and high school there until the school closed.

At age 15 he was confirmed in the Lutheran faith in a small rural church in Minnie Lake Township. This church has since burned. Albert loved his God to the nth degree and had planned to enter the ministry until World War II was declared. After being accepted into the service of his country, he was issued a medical discharge due to a leg injury three days prior to his departure.

Albert then stayed at home in Getchell Township where the family had moved in 1943 to farm with his dad until 1948. He married Rosemary Sauer, daughter of William and Katherine Sauer, on February 9, 1948 at St. Catherine’s Church rectory in Valley City, North Dakota. After the marriage the couple lived with the William Sauer’s a couple of months before moving to an apartment in Valley City. They later purchased a home in northwest Valley City where they lived until 2015 when they moved to Sheyenne Care Center. Albert started life in Valley City being self-employed, and then drove a bulk fuel gas truck for 24 years. In the spring of 1973 he and Rosemary purchased Village Laundry and Cleaners, which they operated for ten years until Albert’s health forced his retirement.

Albert was a member in long standing of the Eagles Club, Valley City, ND. He enjoyed dancing, working in his yard and caring for his flowers.

Surviving him are sons Gerald (Colette), Winnebago, MN and Troy (Jenny Elton), Valley City, ND; daughters Glenda (Pat) Hurley, Litchville, ND, Valerie Meidinger, Valley City, ND, Janel (Miles) Armstrong, Cando, ND, and Karla Rosario, Westminster, CO.
