Jamestown (CSi) Jamestown High School football could be switching classifications starting with the 2017-18 season.
JHS activities director, Jim Roaldson told the Jamestown Public School Board on Monday, the North Dakota High School Activities Association readjusted the formula used to determine classification and came up with 14 Class AAA teams, 10 AA, 32 A and the rest will be nine-man teams, he said. The JHS move down to AA from AAA is not final.
He said the formula is based on male enrollment size and as it is right now our enrollment numbers appear to have us at a AA level in football as well as Devils Lake under the new plan.
He added that Jamestown hosts two annual cross country invitational meets that are open to any team, he said. There will probably be a good turnout this spring as teams will want to become familiar with the same course that will be used for the state tournament this year.
Jamestown will also host Class A and Class B baseball and softball tournaments in the spring, he said.
Roaldson said the University of Jamestown and JHS are cooperating well with scheduling hockey games at Wilson Arena.
In other business, Roaldson reported that JHS athletes have a combined grade point average of 3.2 or higher in 19 of 22 varsity sports.
The school board meeting was recorded by CSi 10 THE REPLAY CHANNEL, with showings starting on Tuesday.
