CARRINGTON, N.D. (AP) – Voters in Carrington have rejected a proposal to build a new $23.5 million elementary school.
Unofficial results from Tuesday’s election show about 49 percent of the 1,432 voters opposed to the proposed facility. The measure needed 60 percent approval to pass.
Tthe proposal would have raised annual property taxes about $320 per $100,000 worth of home value.
Turnout for the election was high. As a comparison, school board elections in the district typically draw about 120 voters.
