FrontierVillageBlacksmithJamestown (CSI) The Frontier Village board has approved the budget presented by FVA Secretary-Treasurer Tina Busche with a $4,075.15 operating balance. Eleven of 18 dedicated fund items will be reviewed at the next meeting.

Also at the meeting Dakota Belt & Moccasin Owner Tom Mueller, followed up on his offer to pay $10,000 toward repairs to the Village Trader building he leases in the summer.

Mueller said that estimates to raise the corner of the Trader building, replace decking and build a wood foundation on gravel drainage was around $9,000. Mueller would advance $10,000 of his two-year lease, which amounts to a voluntary 35 percent increase.

FVA Board President Charley Tanata said the matter would be put on the next meeting’s agenda.

In other business, the board approved a $500 White Cloud Days budget and directed staff to create activities designed to bring people to Frontier Village. The activities have moved to McElroy Park and have impacted vendors and activities at the Frontier Village.

Tanata encouraged the board to seek out blacksmiths and other demonstrations for White Cloud Days.

Wild West Players representative Jackie Schrader, read a letter of support for Frontier Village Manager Nichole Mosolf in response to the Jamestown Tourism board’s decision to cut 50 percent funding to the FVA manager’s position in February.

Jamestown Tourism Executive Director Searle Swedlund said the cuts were about contracts. The FVA grant application did not update the manager’s job description to reflect a vision of economic impact and a focus on providing positive visitor experiences.

Board Vice President Nellie Degen said Mosolf is achieving goals more so than her predecessors and these efforts are contributing to the FVA mission. She credited Mosolf for motivating and managing 32 volunteers with 2,352 hours in 2015.
