Maury L. Johnson, 56, of Jamestown, ND, passed away at the farm in Barnes County, ND, on Thursday, March 17, 2016.Maurice Maury Lee Johnson was born on January 21, 1960, in Valley City, ND, the son of Maurice A. and Helen Mary (Miemietz) Johnson. He graduated

from Jamestown High School and enlisted with the US Air Force. After he was honorably discharged, Maury worked as a Mental Health Technician at the North Dakota State Hospital. He married Mary Gardner on 10/16/1981. They were married for 13 years. Maury obtained his BSW at MSUM in 1991 and worked as a social

worker at South East Human Service Center Maury graduated with a Master’s degree in social work from UND. He was employed at Cass County Social Services and later at South Central Human

Services. While at SCHSC he obtained his LICSW. Maury worked as a well-respected mental health professional and maintained numerous social relationships. Maury also volunteered for the Salvation Army and other organizations.Maury enjoyed photography, fishing, the outdoors, gardening and watching sports. His life style was with a love of the arts, history, music, animals,

reading and writing. Maury was a strong advocate for those with mental illnesses. One of his proudest accomplishments was being a social worker and serving in that roll with integrity. Maury was a very kind and loving man and

had a selflessness and generosity and love for others, including siblings, parents, friends and his beloved nieces and nephews.Maury had a long struggle with PTSD and depression, his struggles became more

pronounced, but through it all his love and compassion remained. Maury always

thought of others, kind, compassionate a gentle soul who will be missed by his family and friendsMaury is survived by his parents, Maurice A. and Helen M. Johnson;

sister, Lori Anderson; sister, Patsy (Randy) Kramer; brother, Owen (Nancy)

Johnson; sister, Helen (Jim) Gavic; and nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents; and
