Doppler radar estimates showed southern Ward and Mountrail counties with the most precipitation on Sunday with 1.5 to 2 inches at 4 p.m. Stutsman County received about 1 to 1.5 inches at the same time. Most other North Dakota counties affected by the weather system getting a half-inch to an inch of rain.
In Jamestown as of 7-a.m. Monday the weather service recorded another .57 of an inch. at 7:25 a.m. Monday the storm total was 1.62 inches. At 3:40-p.m., Monday the total was1.92 inches.
On Sunday the CSi Weather computer in downtown Jamestown at Historic Franklin School picked up over and inch of rain
.92 inches of rain was recored on Monday up to 8-a.m.
By 3-pm. it was 1 inch.
Jamestown (CSi) Rain caused slippery driving conditions on Sunday.
An SUV traveling on East Lakeside Road, between the Marina, and 32nd Street Southeast left the roadway and struck a tree.
The location specifically was across from the service road to the Lakeside Marina RV Park.
The vehicle hydroplanned on the wet surface.
No injuries reported.
Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown Rural Fire Department was called to a natural gas leak, about 6:30 this morning.
The LEC Dispatch said the call was in th 8000 block of 36th Street SE.
No other information was immediately available.
Fargo (CSi) Hospital officials in Fargo, Sunday morning upgraded 60 year old Dennis Schneider’s Condition from critical to “serious.” Mitch Raile with Sanford Health media relations, says Schneider remains in the critical care unit at Sanford Medical Center, and nurses could not provide more details of Schneider’s injuries.
Schneider was struck by a westbound BNSF train last Thursday morning, when the motorized chair became stuck in the tracks at the crossing at Second Avenue, East near First Street, in downtown Jamestown.
The case is still under investigation.
Police Chief Scott Edinger says video from the train’s locomotive is being reviewed, with information and video from BNSF available in a week or two.
UPDATE… Jamestown (CSi) 32 year old Wesley Alan Cody, of Bismarck, was charged Wednesday in Southeast District Court in Jamestown with theft of property and fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, Class C felonies; theft of property, a Class B misdemeanor; and false reports to law enforcement or other security officials and reckless endangerment, both Class A misdemeanors.
Cody pleaded not guilty to the misdemeanor charges at his initial court appearance Thursday. He is in custody in the Stutsman County Correctional Center on a $1,500 bond. The maximum sentence for a Class C felony is five years in prison and a $10,000 fine. Cody is alleged to have shoplifted items from the Jamestown Wal-Mart store earlier in the week. Valley City (CSi) 8th Avenue, Southwest in Valley City has reopened.
Installation of underground sewer lines was completed ahead of schedule.
The lines now connect to the new Gaukler Family Wellness, Health and Physical Education Facility.
The work was finished two weeks ahead of schedule.
Jamestown (CSi) A bone marrow donor registry drive is set for Jamestown on Monday April 25
The drive will be from 7:30-a.m., to 1-p.m., at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Jamestown.
On Friday’s Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, spokesperson Doreen Brophy said, the effort is part of the National Marrow Donor Program, aiming to deliver cures to individuals diagnosed with life-threatening blood cancers through marrow transplants.
The process on Monday, is a cheek swab which adds the persons tissue type to the for possible inclusion to the registry. It is NOT a marrow donation at that time.
A health questionaire will also be filled out.
If the individual is deemed eligible they will be contacted with further information.
Every four minutes someone is diagnosed with leukemia or other blood diseases like sickle cell anemia, and a marrow transplant is their only hope.
The age group targeted to be a donor and a potential match, is 18-44 years old.
The donor must meet certain health criteria to become a donor.
Jamestown (CSi) This week has been designated, “Severe Summer Weather Awareness Week,” for the entire state of North Dakota by Governor Jack Dalrymple. This annual event is designed to remind the public of the dangers associated with severe summer weather including: lightning, high winds, large hail, flash floods and tornadoes. All of which, can cause severe property damage, personal injury, and even death. As part of the awareness week activities, the annual statewide tornado exercise will be conducted. The exercise is scheduled to begin at about 11:15 a.m. Wednesday, April 27 with a simulated tornado warning issued by the National Weather Service

Bismarck (CSi) – The North Dakota Coalition for Homeless People (NDCHP) is partnering alongside of Surprise Church to provide bags of essential care items to people experiencing homelessness. The movement provides “Mercy Boxes” where people can donate new and unused travel sized personal care items, small pre-packaged snacks, socks, and small first aid supplies. Drop off sites are currently in six cities across the state including Bismarck, Devils Lake, Dickinson, Fargo, Minot and Jamestown. Participating agencies include businesses, non-profits, churches, and health care facilities.
Region VI South Central Homeless Coalition housed in Jamestown is collecting items for this initiative for blessing bags to be used in the Jamestown community.
Collection sites in Jamestown are Stutsman County Housing Authority and Community Options.

North Dakota Coalition for Homeless People, spokesperson Emily Dalzell says, “Over 10,000 people across North Dakota are expected to experience homelessness this year alone, the need has never been greater to be able to actively care for people experiencing homelessness.”
(CSi) Valley News Live reports, a missing Havana, North Dakota woman has been found dead.
Authorities have confirmed that a body found in Havana, has been identified as Sheri Ann Glover.
The body was found by ground searchers on Friday, April 22nd a mile from Glover’s home.
Authorities have not released the cause of death, but do not suspect foul play.
CARSON, N.D. (AP) – Authorities have identified a Dickinson man who died when the motorcycle he was driving was struck by a sport utility vehicle in southwestern North Dakota.
The Highway Patrol says 65-year-old Michael McConnell was declared dead at the scene a mile west of Carson on Friday afternoon.
Authorities say the two vehicles were negotiating a curve when the SUV struck the motorcycle in a “head-on, sideswipe motion.”
The driver of the SUV and its two passengers were taken to an Elgin hospital with unknown injuries.
NEW TOWN, N.D. (AP) – Separate fires in the New Town area have displaced residents of an apartment complex and a single-family home.
No one was injured in either fire on Saturday.
The home that was destroyed was along state Highway 1804. The apartment complex was in northeast New Town. Both structures were destroyed.
As many as a dozen families were displaced by the apartment building fire. Two churches are coordinating a fundraising effort, and the Three Affiliated Tribes also is helping.
NEW TOWN, N.D. (AP) – Two families were evacuated from their homes in the Van Hook area near New Town after a group of oil storage tanks exploded and burned.
Lightning is believed to be the cause of the Sunday afternoon fire. Firefighters from New Town monitored the scene and allowed the blaze to burn itself out. It took about three hours, despite heavy rain.
Families in two nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution. No injuries were reported.
GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – Formal charges are pending against a motorcyclist accused of being drunk and leading police on a chase in eastern North Dakota that reached speeds of 140 mph.
The Highway Patrol says the chase early Saturday started in Walsh County and stretched south into Grand Forks County and then Traill County.
The 26-year-old Minto man lost control of the motorcycle on a dirt road east of Hatton and crashed while traveling about 35 mph. He was arrested and taken to a Grand Forks hospital to be treated for injuries not considered life-threatening.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A man is accused of assaulting a police officer during an investigation into a drive-by shooting on the Turtle Mountain Indian Reservation has pleaded guilty.
Michael Decoteau pleaded guilty to tampering and assaulting and resisting a federal officer. He faces a maximum penalty of 28 years in prison.
The charges are the result of an Aug. 23 incident when Decoteau was being questioned about the shooting of a Belcourt residence. Authorities say the 31-year-old Decoteau injured a Bureau of Indian Affairs officer during the scuffle.
In exchange for the plea, prosecutors agreed to dismiss a charge that accused Decoteau of lying to investigators about the ownership of a handgun.
Sentencing is scheduled for July 15 in Fargo.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota continues to see bleaker-than-expected state tax revenue collections from declining oil activity in the state.
Office of Management and Budget Director Pam Sharp says revenues for March totaled $98.8 million. That’s $13.8 million less than what had been projected.
Tax collections already are down more than $20 million since a new revenue forecast was done in February.
Sharp says most of the decline is due to falling sales tax collections due to a drop in oil drilling and poor crude prices.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Creatures whose fossils have been found in North Dakota are the focus of a fundraising effort from a Texas researcher.
Much of North Dakota was covered by a warm shallow sea millions of years ago, with mosasaurs living in the sea. Mosasaur fossils have been found in the Pierre Shale formation in North Dakota.
$4,000 is being sought on crowdfunding site Experiment.com to study mosasaurs in North Dakota. The project from freelance paleontologist Nathan Van Vranken would get an added $1,000 grant if it gets more supporters than 11 other paleontology projects on the website.
Van Vranken says mosasaurs in North Dakota give a look at a point that’s later in their evolution. Fossils of the creatures can be found from Canada to Texas.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – The state Game and Fish Department is looking for help in identifying bald eagle nests in North Dakota. Conservation biologist Sandra Johnson says the agency is looking for locations of nests with eagles present. She says it’s easy to distinguish an eagle nest because of its enormous size, and eagles are actively tending to eggs or their young in April. Johnson estimates North Dakota has at least 170 active nests.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – The Bismarck-Mandan Chamber of Commerce has hired Williston’s chamber president as its new leader.
Scott Meske will begin duties as Bismarck-Mandan chamber’s president on May 16.
Executive committee chairman Perrie Schafer says the hiring committee reviewed about 30 candidates before deciding on Meske, who has 13 years of economic development experience. Before working in Williston. Meske spent 11 years in the Greater Madison Chamber of Commerce’s No. 2 position.
Brenda Nagel, who led the chamber’s search committee, says Meske’s drive and enthusiasm will greatly benefit the Bismarck-Mandan business community.
Meske replaces Kelvin Hullet, who left to serve as economic development and government program market manager for the Bank of North Dakota.
WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) – Two Williston police officers helped a little girl get a new bicycle earlier this month after responding to complaint about the theft of her bike.
Officers Jon Roggenkamp and Brett Flesness reported to a complaint about a child’s stolen bike on April 2. Instead of just responding to the call, the officers promptly returned to the household after selecting a new bike for the child from Walmart.
The officers refrained from mentioning the instance until a Facebook post made by the child’s mother, Bobbi Snider, reached Sgt. Rodney Dickerson.
Police commissioner Tate Cymbaluk says the gesture speaks volumes and tells the character of the individuals and the department.
In sports….
(CSi) The 2016 Badlands Bowl, will feature six area high school seniors. They include Jamestown’s Logan Anderson and Noah Wanzek, LaMoure-Litchville/Marion’s Quinn Alo, Carrington’s Jacob Copenhaver, Oakes’ Michael Kelly, and South Border’s Hunter Pinke. The graduating North Dakota seniors take on Montana on June 18,2016, at the the Biesiot Activities Center at Dickinson State University.
Montana leads the series 16 games to six, last year winning 40-25. North Dakota’s last win came in 2014 with a 25-22 victory.
Jamestown (CSi) Jamestown has been named one of nine hosts sites for the opening round of the NAIA National Baseball Tournament.
The tournament will feature four teams including the Jimmies in a double-elimination tournament beginning May 17, 2016 at Jack Brown Stadium with a spot in Lewiston, Idaho and the NAIA World Series up for grabs. The tournament will have three games on the first two days starting at 11am. The third day will feature two games with a potential second championship game on Friday.
Jamestown’s at 41-5 and in the NAIA Top-25 were big factors in their bid to be a host site. The Opening Round site selection process takes into account geography, facilities, student-athlete experience and host qualification.
The rest of this year’s host are: Auburn Montgomery (Ala.), Davenport (Mich.), Faulkner (Ala.), Georgia Gwinnett, Kingsport (Tenn.) Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Appalachian Athletic Conference, Tabor (Kan.), USC Beaufort (S.C.), and Westmont (Calif.).
The Jimmies are also hosting the NSAA Tournament along with Valley City State the first weekend in May.
College Baseball…
Jamestown (CSi) 10th-ranked University of Jamestown baseball swept Valley City State 6-5 and 13-11 on Saturday at Jack Brown Stadium in Jamestown.
The Jimmies improved to 16-3 in conference play and 44-5 overall.
Valley City (CSi)A thirty-minute lightning delay followed by steady rain caused Sunday’s college baseball game between Jamestown and VCSU at Charlie Brown Field to be cancelled. The game will not be made up.
Jamestown was leading 4-2 in the bottom of the fifth. UJ scored two in the top of the first before VCSU scored single runs in the second and third to tie the score.
UJ broke the deadlock in the fourth inning with two runs to take the lead at 4-2 before the delay.
Scott Beever started and worked four strong innings, striking out six to bounce back from a short outing in his last appearance.
Six different Jimmies had hits before the game was called. Since the game was not official, no statistics will count.
College Softball…
(UJ) The Jimmie softball team hosted the Dickinson State Blue Hawks in the first matchup between the two teams since last season’s North Star Athletic Association conference championship. The Blue Hawks emerged with the sweep on Saturday, taking game one 2-0 in 11 innings, then winning 7-4 in the second game.

WASHINGTON (AP) – Bryce Harper tied it with a pinch-hit home run in the ninth inning, pitcher Oliver Perez put down a bunt in the 15th that kept the game going and Chris Heisey homered in the 16th to give the Washington Nationals a wild 6-5 win over the Minnesota Twins.
At 5 hours, 56 minutes, it was the longest regular-season game in Nationals’ history.

UNDATED (AP) – San Antonio and Cleveland wrapped up four-game sweeps in the NBA conference quarterfinals, Golden State took a 3-1 series lead over Houston and Boston squared its series with Atlanta at two games apiece. Kawhi (kah-WY’) Leonard had 21 points in the Spurs’ 116-95 rout of Memphis, and Kyrie Irving’s 31 points led the Cavaliers past Detroit 100-98. The Warriors set a league playoff record with 21 3-pointers in a 121-94 dismantling of the Rockets, and the Celtics rode Isaiah Thomas’ 28 points to a 104-95 overtime win against the Hawks.
HOUSTON (AP) – Golden State Warriors guard and reigning MVP Stephen (STEH’-fehn) Curry will undergo an MRI today after spraining his right knee in yesterday’s playoff win at Houston. He did not play in the second half after spraining the knee on the final play of the second quarter. Curry scored just six points on 2 of 9 shooting in 18 minutes after missing the previous two games with a sprained right ankle.
LOS ANGELES (AP) – Byron Scott will not return to coach the Los Angeles Lakers next season.
The Lakers announced the decision late Sunday night.
Scott coached the Lakers for the two worst seasons in the 16-time NBA champion franchise’s history, going 38-126.
The Lakers are making a clean break from the Kobe Bryant era by firing the coach who shepherded the superstar guard’s farewell season, but couldn’t coax many wins out of an otherwise dismal roster.
Los Angeles finished with the NBA’s second-worst record at 17-65 this season, losing four more games than in its previous franchise-worst season in 2014-15.
General manager Mitch Kupchak says “it is in the best interest of the organization to make a change at this time.”
NATIONAL HOCKEY LEAGUE PLAYOFFS
UNDATED (AP) – The Washington Capitals, Dallas Stars and New York Islanders have moved into the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs. Nicklas Backstrom had the lone goal and Braden Holtby made 26 saves in Washington’s 1-0 shutout of Philadelphia, and Jason Spezza (SPEHT’-suh) provided a goal and three assists to help the Stars oust Minnesota 5-4. John Taveras scored in the final minute of regulation and added the series-winner in double-overtime to lead the Isles past Florida 2-1.
Jason Spezza scored his fourth goal of the series and added three assists, and goalie Kari Lehtonen and the Dallas Stars needed every last one of them to hold off the Minnesota Wild 5-4 on Sunday to wrap up the first-round series in six games.
Jared Spurgeon scored two of Minnesota’s four third-period goals and the Wild came within a fraction of an inch of tying it with 34 seconds remaining when Nino Niederreiter whacked at a loose puck in the crease. Freeze-frame replays showed it in the net, but not quite fully across the goal line as it connected with Lehtonen’s right pad, an oh-so-close call that was upheld by review.
The Stars moved on to face the winner of the Chicago-St. Louis series, which is tied at 3. The Blues host the Blackhawks in their decisive Game 7 on Monday night.
NASCAR-RICHMOND…
RICHMOND, Va. (AP) – Carl Edwards bumped teammate Kyle Busch off his racing line in the last turn and passed him to win the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Richmond International Raceway on Sunday.
Edwards, who had fallen nearly 1.5 seconds behind his Joe Gibbs Racing teammate after a restart with 36 laps to go, gradually ran him down until the final lap. Then he slipped underneath Busch, a master blocker in late-race situations, and nudged him just enough to allow Edwards to get inside him for his second consecutive victory. It was also the fourth in a row for the Gibbs stable, and fifth in nine races.
After falling so far behind, Edwards was surprised to finally find himself in position to challenge for the victory.
Busch seemed less than amused after being denied his third victory in the last four races.
Jimmie Johnson finished third, follow by Hendrick Motorsports teammate Kasey Kahne and pole-sitter Kevin Harvick.
The race was the first scheduled for daytime at Richmond since 1997.
SAN ANTONIO (AP) – Charley Hoffman shot a final round 3-under-69 to win the PGA’s Texas Open. He finished play 12-under-par one shot in front of Patrick Reed and two in front of Chad Collins. The win is Hoffman’s fourth on the PGA Tour.

HANNOVER, Germany (AP) – President Barack Obama says he’s sending up to 250 more troops to Syria to help in the fight against the Islamic State group. Obama says the additional troops, added to the 50 already there, will “keep up this momentum” against IS. The president made the announcement at a trade fare today in Hannover, Germany.
HANNOVER, Germany (AP) – While President Barack Obama attended a trade fair in Hannover, Germany today, hundreds of people demonstrated outside the event against job cuts at IBM. Some 200 workers for the U.S. technology and consulting company say the job cuts will end up costing some 900 jobs in Germany. Obama has been at the fair, promoting American business.
KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) – Afghanistan’s president is calling on Pakistan to battle the Taliban rather than try to bring them into peace talks. Ashraf Ghani made the remarks today during an address to parliament, a week after a Taliban assault on the Afghan capital, Kabul, killed 64 people and wounded another 340. Afghan officials have long accused Pakistan of turning a blind eye to the Taliban.
BRUSSELS (AP) – The Brussels subway station where 16 people were killed by a suicide bomber is now reopened. Security remains high across the underground network, which was hit during the March 22 attacks in Brussels. One 42-year-old commuter commented today that life must go on. He said, The madness of men is what it is but peace must win over.”
WASHINGTON (AP) – Attorney General Loretta Lynch is asking the nation’s governors to make it easier for convicted felons to obtain state-issued identification after they get out of prison. It’s part of a broader plan Lynch is announcing today to help smooth the path for state and federal inmates who are getting ready to re-enter society. This week is National Reentry Week, which is aimed at helping the roughly 600,000 ex-cons who are re-integrated into society each year.
