A search warrant police obtained allowed officers to search the apartment, where they found narcotics paraphernalia, according to the release.

Update….

HANKINSON, N.D. (AP) – Authorities say two people from Missouri are dead after a two-vehicle crash in southeastern North Dakota, just north of the border with South Dakota.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol said in a news release that the crash happened Friday afternoon on Interstate 29 a mile north of the South Dakota border. The release says a Dodge Ram struck a Kia Sportage on the driver’s door.

The Highway Patrol says the Sportage’s driver and passenger were pronounced dead at the scene. The patrol says dead are 66 year old Donna Henrikson, and 68 year old Clarence Hughes, both of St. Peters, Missouri. Injured in the crash was 43 year old Scott Thomasson, Balatan, Minnesota.

According to the Highway Patrol, the Ram’s driver was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Breckenridge, by Hankinson Ambulance and released a short time later. The patrol says the crash remains under investigation.

Update…

BISMARCK, N.D. – Two inmates who walked away from the Missouri River Correctional Center Sunday were taken into custody without incident. Devin John Wynne and Three Feathers Lee Morin are now at the State Penitentiary.

The Bismarck Police Department received a tip that the two were staying at the Budget Inn. Police located and apprehended the men without incident.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota’s Health Department is reminding people to protect themselves against hantavirus disease while doing spring cleaning.

The viral infection causes severe lung disease and can be fatal. It’s spread by infected rodents in their urine, droppings and saliva. The deer mouse is the primary carrier.

Epidemiologist Michelle Feist (fyst) says people should be careful when cleaning cabins, sheds and other buildings that have been closed up for a while and might have housed rodents. Tips include ventilating the area, wearing gloves and using disinfectant.

Fourteen hantavirus cases have been reported to the state Health Department since 1993, when the virus was first recognized in the U.S. Seven of those cases were fatal.

WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) – FBI Director James Comey will be in northwest North Dakota Monday to open the bureau’s newest office.

Comey will lead the ribbon cutting ceremony for the bureau’s office in Williston. The office is located in the Badlands Town Center Complex.

The state’s congressional delegation and U.S. Attorney Christopher Myers will participate in the ceremony.

The FBI’s Williston office will be the fifth in the state. The bureau already has offices in Fargo, Grand Forks, Bismarck and Minot.

Comey will also visit with tribal officials at the Fort Berthold Reservation.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Six of the 120 flags that lined a Bismarck street for a Memorial day parade were stolen.

Bismarck Optimist Club President Krista Fremming says volunteers usually set up the flags in the morning and remove them in the evening. This year, volunteers left the flags up until Tuesday because they were wet from rain.

The volunteer organization reported the theft to Bismarck Police. The flags are valued flags at $50 each, for a total loss of $300.

The club puts out the flags each year to honor the military, encourage patriotism and decorate the city. Since 2012, the club has decorated State Street on Memorial Day, Flag Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day and Veterans Day.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – The Bank of North Dakota is partnering with real estate brokers to help potential buyers refinance their student loan debt.

Bank President Eric Hardmeyer says national reports show that students are graduating with an average of $27,000 to $30,000 in student loan debt. And housing lenders are seeing the student loans as a barrier to housing loan approval.

Hardmeyer says people are delaying major life decisions because of student debt. The realization helped lead to the bank’s DEAL One loan program.

A graduate paying 14 percent interest student loan can refinance the loan to less than 2 percent interest with a variable rate. Hardmeyer says that’s a huge savings, and in some cases, it’s a life changer.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A former Microsoft executive and entrepreneur is looking for a decidedly different job: as governor of North Dakota.
Doug Burgum is considered an underdog in this month’s Republican primary race against longtime Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem (STIHN’-jehm), who has the party’s endorsement and more statewide recognition than his wealthy opponent.
Burgum is not well-known outside of Fargo, where he’s involved in tech companies and real estate development. But he’s been spending heavily on advertising and crisscrossing the state to convince voters that he’s uniquely qualified to lead North Dakota out of an economic slump caused by low oil prices.
Burgum has infuriated GOP officials by claiming lawmakers squandered the state’s oil bounty.
Stenehjem says there’s nothing wrong with how the state has been run, and claims that Burgum “will say or pay anything to become governor.”

FARGO, N.D. (AP) – A North Dakota program has awarded more than $1.2 million for research projects for public and private partners.

The North Dakota Centers of Excellence Commission provides matching funds to help companies pay for university research. Proposals for projects are submitted jointly by representatives from one of the state’s two research universities and a private sector partner.

The largest grant is $300,000 to the University of North Dakota atmospheric sciences department, which is partnering with Rosemount Aerospace, Inc. to refine newly developed instruments that detect high ice concentrations on commercial aircraft.

The program is funding eight other projects, including four from UND and four from North Dakota State University.

NEW TOWN, N.D. (AP) – A tribal-owned oil company that started oil production last year has garnered roughly 1,000 barrels of oil per day for the Three Affiliated Tribes.

The  tribe is making efforts to reclaim oil production that takes place on the reservation by taking on leaseholds that are new or expiring. Missouri River Resources’ first barrel of oil was produced in June 2015, and last year it drilled four wells.

Missouri River Resources board chairman Ken Hall says the tribal-owned company has plans this year for three four-well projects and for a project next year that’s 32 wells.

In 2007 and 2008, private companies were leased the majority of tribal lands by the tribe. The tribal-owned company is now trying to get leaseholds on the reservation.

Valley City (CSi-VCSU)  Valley  Valley City State University seniors Cejay Hilhorst and Katie Cameron both received different NAIA softball All American honors last week.

A native of Killarney, Manitoba, Hilhorst was named to the official NAIA All-America 2nd Team.

Cameron, a native of Alameda, Saskatchewan, was named a NAIA 2nd Team All American by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA).

Both received the honors after record-setting seasons that helped the Vikings to a school-record 40 wins this year.

Hilhorst is one of just 60 athletes nationwide to earn the official NAIA All American honors. The NAIA names 20 athletes to the First Team, 20 to the Second Team, and 20 more receive honorable mention status.

Hilhorst anchored third base for the Vikings this season. She batted .463 and set a new school record with 58 RBIs, breaking the old mark of 50 set by Amanda Carter in 2010. She hit 17 doubles and 13 home runs, scored 44 runs and led the team with a .817 slugging percentage. She was named First Team All Conference for the third year in a row. Hilhorst was also named to the NFCA All-Region First Team, and ranked Top 35 in the nation in 11 offensive categories.

Cameron is one of just 33 athletes nationwide named to the NFCA NAIA All-America teams. Only players from schools whose head coaches are NFCA members are eligible for the honor.

Cameron led the Vikings with a .480 batting average this season and played stellar defense at second base. She set a new VCSU record with 82 hits, breaking the old mark of 73 set by Cyndi Figol in 2010. Cameron hit 14 doubles, scored 55 runs and drove in 55 runs. She also went 41-for-43 on stolen base attempts. Defensively, Cameron committed just three errors in 143 chances for a .979 fielding percentage. Cameron ranked Top 25 in the nation in 11 offensive categories.

This was the third consecutive season that Cameron was named First Team All Conference. She was also named to the NFCA All-Region First Team.

Hilhorst and Cameron are just the third and fourth All Americans in Viking softball history, and the first since pitcher Karalea Morris earned the honor in 2006. Brenda (Hubrig) Radloff also was named All American as an outfielder in 1982.

Valley City State (40-13 overall record) set a new school record with 40 wins this season, which is just one of 13 team or individual school records they broke this year. VCSU finished second in the NSAA Tournament and was the second team left out of the NAIA National Tournament

JERUSALEM (AP) – The Israeli prime minister’s office says any money Benjamin Netanyahu received from a French tycoon was lawfully given while he was a private citizen, and not part of any election campaign donation. If true, that would violate Israel’s campaign finance laws. Mimran is the key suspect in a carbon tax fraud case in France.
