Jamestown  (CSi) Jamestown Police Tuesday afternoon began a search for a child reported missing. The call came at 12:44pm. Police searched for the child until  3:21-pm, when the child was located.

The Eight year old child was last seen in Southeast Jamestown Tuesday morning at 10-am.

Jamestown Police Day Shift Supervisor Sgt. Tyler Loven, says the boy was staying with relatives and apparently had wandered off.  The Child was located at a residence in  southeast Jamestown, known to the child,  safe and unharmed.

Loven says the boy was at the location during the time of the search.

Jamestown Police was assisted by the Stutsman County Sheriff’s Office.

For the request to rezone from B-1 (Central Business District) to B-2 (Highway Business District) for the real property described in application submitted (From Dave Zubrod).  The Pizza Corner location.  Pizza is no longer being made at the location.  Zubrod said  shipping freezer is located in part of the building.  Zubrod said a part of the building has been sold to another business to locate there.  Zubrod’s attorney said the rezoning will allow Zubrod to redevelop the property under the changed zoning.

Following the Public Hearing:  The City Commission approved the First Reading of an amending and Re-Enacting Section of an Ordinance, by  Changing the Zoning Use Districts as Established on the Zoning Map of the City of Valley City, Barnes County, North Dakota.

CITY ADMINISTRATOR’S REPORT:

David Schelkoph  gave an update on the flood buyout program, with Phase 3 and moving forward to Phase 4.

He said the franchise renewal talks with CSi Cable and Century Link are continuing.

He asked residents to be patient with the congestion in town concerning street construction this summer.

He praised the election workers for their participation in the May 23, 2017 Special City Commissioner Election.

He said on Monday a record amount of water was used in Valley City, at 1.5 million gallons.

He asked residents to water lawns early morning, or in the evening to avoid direct sunlight.

City Building Inspector Dave Andersen reported on building permits issued, saying the pace is ahead of what he expected.

He said the sidewalk shaving has started in Valley City.

 

City Fire Chief Gary Retterath reported that all the outdoor sirens are in working order.

He attended the state fire fighters convention in Dickinson last week, adding that the state convention will be in Valley City in 2018.

 

Mayor Carlsrud thanked the owners of the new Blush Boutique in Valley City for their investment in Valley City.

Bismarck  (CSi) The NDDOT reports that the west bound off ramp on I-94 at the Windsor Interchange, (Exit 242) is temporarily closed  for repairs. The ramp will remain closed until repairs are completed. During the closure, traffic will need to find an alternate route.

Jamestown  (CSi)  Jamestown Tourism Director Searle Swedlund says a number of activities in Jamestown and the area in the coming days will be another good draw for tourists.

On Tuesday’s Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, he said the Kite festival in conjunction with the James River Figure Skating Club’s Car Raffle Fundraising in Jamestown at Leapaldt Park is June 9, 10, and 11, and Wimbledon is celebrating its 125th Anniversary June 23-25, 2017.

He pointed out the the 1883 Stutsman County Courthouse is open for the summer Wednesday, through Sunday from 10-a.m., to 5-p.m.

He pointed out that Jamestown’s White Cloud Days is set for July  with the White Cloud Days Parade in Downtown Jamestown July 8th.

The annual Rods and Hogs event is Saturday June 10, 2017 in Downtown Jamestown.

The Jamestown Fireworks display will be on the evening of Tuesday July 4, 2017 at the Stutsman County Fairgrounds.

Swedlund was also on the search committee seeking a new Jamestown Arts Center, Director.

He said that Larry Kopp from Pennsylvania has been selected as 20 individuals applied for the position.

Swedlund said this month’s Grant/Executive Board meeting is June 15th, at the CSi Technology Center, at Historic Franklin School.

On the agenda is grant requests the regional trail signs project, a staff request from the Jamestown Arts Center, and a request from the Jamestown Downtown Association for their banner project.

The meeting starts at 11:30-a.m.

He added that any organization that wants more information on requesting Tourism grants, may contact Jamestown Tourism for more information.

 

Valley City  (CSi)  Valley City Parks & Recreation welcomes Kathie Brekke & the 42nd Street Jazz Band the season kickoff of Music in City Park, on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at 7:15 pm, at the Bandshell.

The 42nd Street Jazz has  over 40 years of musical entertainment experience ranging from background music, to entertaining shows or wedding dances.

LaMoure  (CSi)  The LaMoure County Commission has made a fire declaration and burn restriction

LaMoure County Department of Emergency Services and Emergency Services Communication Systems reports that most of LaMoure County is in a D1 moderate drought designation from the National Drought Mitigation Center at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

LaMoure County Emergency Manager, Kimberly Robbins,  says  open burning is prohibited the LaMoure County fire danger rating is high, very high or extreme and/or the National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning.

Bismarck  (CSi)   Through Thursday this week, North Dakota Highway Patrol troopers and civilian inspectors are participating in a nationwide commercial motor vehicle enforcement and educational program. Roadcheck is a 72-hour period of large truck and bus safety inspections. This year’s emphasis is cargo securement.

Inspectors will primarily conduct the North American Standard Level I Inspection, a 37-step procedure including an examination of both driver operating requirements and vehicle mechanical fitness. Drivers must provide items such as a driver’s license, hours-of-service documentation, motor carrier registration, and shipping documentation. Inspectors will also monitor seat belt usage and the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. 

CVSA is an international not-for-profit organization of motor carrier safety officials from the United States, Canada, and Mexico. CVSA’s mission is to promote commercial motor vehicle safety and security by providing leadership to enforcement, industry, and policy makers.

 

Bismarck  (CSi)   A North Dakota Army National Guard unit has received an alert for possible mobilization order. If mobilized, the Bismarck-based Detachment 7, Company C, 2nd Battalion, 245th Aviation Regiment, Operational Airlift Support (OSA), would deploy to the Horn of Africa area of operations in support of Central Command (CENTCOM) during summer 2018.

Formerly Detachment 42, OSA, the unit was re-designated Sept. 1, 2016. If mobilized, this would be the unit’s fourth mobilization. Det. 42 served in Afghanistan from Jan 2013 to Nov 2013 and Sept. 2004 until March 2005; and Djibouti, Africa, from April 2009 to Feb. 2010.

Four Soldiers of the five-Soldier unit have been alerted and if mobilized, will operate aircraft already on location. This small but highly specialized aviation unit operate one C-12 Huron aircraft.  Their mission is to provide fixed wing aircraft of cargo and transport of personnel.

“We are proud of our skilled and competent Army aviators. If this unit mobilizes, I am confident of their abilities to successfully accomplish their mission in a professional manner,” said Maj. Gen. Alan Dohrmann, North Dakota adjutant general. “Our Army aviation units boast a superb record of nearly 142,000 hours of accident free flying dating back to 1958.”

The unit is led by Chief Warrant Officer 3 Robert Smette. Almost all of the Soldiers scheduled for this mission have previous overseas deployments.

Approximately 60 North Dakota Guard Soldiers are currently serving overseas in Afghanistan with the Devil’s Lake based 136th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion while more than 200 members of Grand Forks-based 1st Battalion, 188th Air Defense Artillery Regiment are assisting with the protection of the airspace in the National Capital Region. About 22 Happy Hooligan Airmen are currently mobilized in support of CENTCOM with an additional 120 Airmen expected to mobilize this summer.

 

FARGO, N.D. (AP) — A North Dakota woman who assisted prosecutors in sending her ex-husband to prison for a murder-for-hire plot has been sentenced for her role in their joint embezzlement scheme.

30-year-old Sarah Marie Creveling was sentenced Monday to serve three years of supervised probation. She’s also required to pay at least $342,500 in restitution and forfeit an oil and gas lease.

Creveling pleaded guilty to defrauding investors with her ex-husband, James Henrikson, from 2011 to 2014. Court documents say Creveling and Henrikson secured investments for oilfield trucks and embezzled the profits to buy property or diverted it to other companies they owned.

Prosecutors say Creveling’s sentence reflects her cooperation in Henrikson’s case. He was convicted of hiring two men to kill Kristopher Clarke and Doug Carlile.

 

BAUDETTE, Minn. (AP) — Two people suffered life-threatening injuries when their motorcycle collided with a deer in northern Minnesota.

The State Patrol says the crash happened in Beltrami County Monday afternoon. The two were westbound on Highway 1 when they struck the deer about 3 p.m. south of Lower Red Lake.

74-year-old Billy Aery and his passenger, 72-year-old Rebecca Aery, were taken to Essentia Hospital in Fargo, North Dakota with serious injuries.

PARIS (AP) — Interior minister Gerard Collomb says a special security meeting convened by French president Emmanuel Macron will examine new counterterrorism measures Wednesday at the Elysee palace. Collomb told reporters the defense council, which includes government members and top security officials, will focus on extending the country’s state of emergency and other permanent security measures.

LONDON (AP) — London police say a French man who has been missing since the night of the London Bridge attack may have been thrown into the River Thames by the killers’ speeding van. The Metropolitan Police force appealed Tuesday for information about 45-year-old Xavier Thomas, who was walking with his girlfriend over the bridge when the attack began on Saturday night.

RUTHERFORDTON, N.C. (AP) — A judge cited a juror’s misbehavior and declared a mistrial in the case of a North Carolina church minister accused in the beating of a congregant who says he was attacked to expel his “homosexual demons.” The judge immediately held the juror in contempt on Tuesday and sentenced him to 30 days in jail and a $500 fine for bringing in unspecified outside materials.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The United States is unlikely to play a central role in mediating the diplomatic crisis between Qatar and other Arab nations. A State Department official says the U.S. believes it is most effective for countries in the region to resolve the conflict among themselves.

FORT BRAGG, N.C. (AP) — The Army is planning to triple the amount of bonuses it’s paying this year to more than $380 million in a bid to expand its ranks. The money includes new incentives to woo reluctant soldiers to re-enlist. Some could get $90,000 up front by committing to another four or more years. The Army is looking to reverse a downsizing that occurred under the Obama administration after years of growth spurred by the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. President Donald Trump has proposed even further expansion.
